I'm 51 years old and have just begun playing chess again. I played in junior high but just locally. I have no rating. I'm an endodontist (root canal specialist) during the day, a father of seven during waking hours and have a possible chess addiction between patients and while everyone else is sleeping-fortunately I only need 4-5 hours of sleep/night. I am curently frustrated in my search for the best way to increase my chess base knowledge. My wish, in books that I read, is that the thought behind each piece moved would be explained.

I just finished reading The Immortal Game and enjoyed it immensely. I don't think, though, that I will ever develop the ability like Anderssen to see the end of the game at the beginning. I'm not exactly certain of the best pathway to improvement.
