Hey there fellow pawn pushers!

I bet you'd like to know a little bit about me. You are in luck, as you have landed on my bio page!

Let me tell you first things first: I'm a straight shooter. No beating around the bush for me. I tell things how they are and I don't stall with unnecessary banter. I would never put an excessively long paragraph on my bio page, because that type of behavior stands against my very essence. Consider yourself blessed to come across the profile of a man with so few words to say, and who always gets to the point.

My favorite player is Paul Morphy, because I can actually understand what he does on the chess board. He likes to hit home runs, and I like to hit home runs, too, in theory, but in real life I do struggle quite a bit when it comes to hitting a baseball. I once missed on several attempts to hit the baseball coming out of a pitching machine.

Dealing with the chessgames of the modern players is tough, but I insist that you can learn quite a bit by following the mad genius of Alexander Morozevich. That's why he is my favorite player. Unless it is Morphy. Depends on what day of the week it is.

My style of chess is a lot like my personality. For example, I like to constantly threaten people until they collapse under the pressure. Kind of like this Morphy french game J McConnell vs Morphy, 1850 this Morozevich french game Judit Polgar vs Morozevich, 2000 or the time I inadvertently made a grown man cry. He was French.

   Dec-14-19 Kramnik vs Lanka, 1992

builttospill: Cold-blooded sacrifice on move 24 demonstrates that positional considerations outweigh the material ones in these types of King's Indian positions. A real hidden gem of Kramnik's.

   Mar-14-19 E Postny vs D Zoler, 2013

builttospill: I am a big fan of this game. The position after 18... Bc5 is used as an example in the book "Improve your chess pattern recognition" by IM Arthur van de Oudeweetering. Na5 is a beautiful move that sets the tone for the rest of the game. Obviously black is not interested in ...

   Sep-30-17 Kramnik vs S P Sethuraman, 2017 (replies)

builttospill: One of these days when I stop playing coffeehouse style I'll study the games of one Vladimir Kramnik, because this one had draw written all over it. Is there an obvious blunder in this game? Man chess is hard

   Sep-27-17 World Cup (2017) (replies)

builttospill: I'm very happy for Levon -- one of the best personalities in chess. His play in the final two rapid games was creative as always. And I'll collect my chessbucks now ;)

   Sep-21-17 Aronian vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2017 (replies)

builttospill: <<flightsquare> Kasparov made a snide remark that Aronian is lacking some mental toughness to contend for world championship > As much as I love Kasparov he couldn't be more wrong about this. Aronian hates losing as much as a guy like Carlsen, but he keeps his ...

Jul-04-17 FIDE Grand Prix Geneva (2017) (replies)

builttospill: Three of my favorites in this tournament: Aronian, Eljanov and Rapport. I suspect it comes down to Aronian and Mamedyarov to win this. Grischuk is the wild card

   Feb-24-17 R Rapport vs A Riazantsev, 2017 (replies)

builttospill: Rapport is brilliant. Didn't think of the deceptively simple 32. RB7. And the plan starting with 44. RA8 leads to a lot of complications that favor white just enough to win. The endgame is instructive

   Sep-13-16 Chess Olympiad (2016) (replies)

builttospill: <Tiggler>, that's right. Germany played Ukraine earlier and that result should have helped them. According to some calculations since tiebreaker 1 is even, tiebreaker 2 has US at 410 points unofficially, with some results coming in from Serbia, and Ukraine at 404. Should ...

Dec-17-15 Carlsen vs Grischuk, 2015 (replies)

builttospill: I side with <An Englishman>. Is chess a game of skill? Absolutely. Those skills include time management, pattern recognition, strategic understanding, tactical calculation, technique, opening knowledge, top-down and bottom-up thinking, and consideration of opponent's ...

   Oct-06-15 Morozevich vs Smirin, 2015

builttospill: Looks like Smirin blundered on move 12 and Moro never took his foot off the gas. No matter what black does white is threatening either f4 or Rxe5. For example: 13. ...Qe7 14. Qxe7 ...Bxe7 15. Rxe5 13. ...Qe7 14. Qxe7 ...Kxe7 15. f4 Best bet was try and run with the king, but
