I'm just a patzer, but I absolutely love chess. Tal is my favorite player, and I really like Nezh also. Out of current, active players, Levon Aronian is my favorite. Morozevich is also great. Some historical notes:
I think Bannerjee Mohishunder deserves more recognition as a profound opening theorist, since the first Gruenfeld, the first King's Indian, the first Fischer Defense, and the first Schleimann Defense are all his. I believe a reasonable case can be made that the first World Champion-- in the sense of "World Champion" that really matters-- was Adolf Anderssen, that the Championship then went to Paul Morphy, back to Anderssen, and then to Steiniz, before Steiniz's match with Zukertort. |
