   Jan-20-08 Smagin vs N Monin, 1986 (replies)

devinjc: Why should black play 16...Be7 at all? Won't Bf5 followed by moves like Qd7 and f5 (e.g. 16...Bf5 17.Nfg5 Qd7 18.Nxh7 Bxh7 19.Bc2 f5) hold? I don't have a chess program.

Dec-14-07 Kamsky vs Shirov, 2007 (replies)

devinjc: What about Qxe5 here?

Jul-31-07 Carlsen vs Pelletier, 2007 (replies)

devinjc: Perpetual can be prevented by moving the king to the 8th rank and using the Rd7 to block, right?

Jul-31-07 Karpov vs Kasparov, 1991 (replies)

devinjc: why not 44...Rxg4 instead of h5. As it has been pointed out, white cannot win with two knights and a king. This seems rather elementary for Kasparov to miss it; unless he thought that he could pressure Karpov into a blunder?

May-28-07 World Championship Candidates (2007) (replies)

devinjc: How could he lose on time on move 39? He should have just played anything.

devinjc: Bb7 could be met by ..Rxb7 and ..g2, can't it?

Feb-26-07 Shulman vs The World, 2007 (replies)

devinjc: I don't see the advantage to Rc8; the rook is not accomplishing anything. I vote for Bd6, which seems to be a more useful move by contesting the e5 square and eyeing f4. Some may argue that it is better to play Rc8 now since we are going to play it anyway, but time can be a precious

Jan-15-07 Tiviakov vs Carlsen, 2007 (replies)

devinjc: 18.Bxd5 seems inconsistent to me. Tiviakov allowed his pawn structure to be embrassed to get the bishop pair, a double edged idea. So why re-balance the game for a draw? He doesn't even seem to make any effort to drum up attacking chances with his bishop pair.

   Jan-15-07 Corus Group A (2007) (replies)

devinjc: My prediction for tomorrow: Kramnik beats Navara, Anand beats Carlsen, all other games drawn.
