   Dec-12-03 O Rodriguez Vargas vs F Olafsson, 1978 (replies)

djp: < Sparkowitsch II: Sorry, the king may not move to g1, he has to move to h1 instead. > I have a feeling that Kh1 is what < mrwonkabar> meant. Otherwise he's got both the king and the rook occupying g1 at the same time. King moved there on move 28 and then he has the rook ...

djp: < brazos: i was looking at Qh4, it is late but i think that that move is also winning... (wins a piece) > Your idea may win a piece, but the played move wins the game outright. If 30. Kxh2 then ...Qxh4#

djp: I see nothing wrong with 5. Ne5 to exploit black's pinned knight. It threatens Nxc6, Pxc6, Bxc6+ winning the A8 rook.

   Jul-26-03 P Wisniewski vs J Krainski, 2001

djp: I wonder if Move 47 by black was a time-pressured blunder. Seems like the game would have continued to grind on if black had chosen Na2 or Nb5 or Nd5. White eventually would have won anyway, but it would have been a tough fight.

djp: I just submitted it, sleepkid. But for those who can't wait for it to be processed: [Event "USA-URS radio m"] [Site "URS"] [Date "1945.??.??"] [Round "2"] [White "Horowitz, Israel Albert"] [Black "Flohr, Salo"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "B16"] [PlyCount "81"] ...

djp: Yes, patzer2, you are correct. I meant Rxf7. Thanks. I'm new to this site and am finding it hard to work in this narrow window because you have to keep scrolling up and down between a view of the board and the window you're typing in (while at the same time keeping alive in your head ...

   May-28-03 O Sikorova vs I Gaponenko, 2002 (replies)

djp: Well, I went straight to the source and emailed Olga Sikorova. Honza Cervenka is correct: there were transcription problems in the first few rounds. Ms Sikorova says her move on 14 was Qxh1. She also says that there are moves after 53. Qf7+ which don't show up in the official score. She
