   Sep-21-04 E Horn vs E Averchenko, 2003 (replies)
hollowone: 4. Qxd4? I'm unfamiliar with this particular variant of the Sicilian, having always believed that it's purely a loss of tempo after the eventual ... Nc6. Are there any lines in which this development is favourable for white over 4. Nxd4?
   Aug-20-04 Humburg vs W Mandel, 1965 (replies)
hollowone: So I suppose the lesson for black here is, if you're going to bother threatening the bishop on b3, take the frickin' piece before retreating your other knight.
   Aug-19-04 Grigor Minchev (replies)
hollowone: What do you mean by "flaw", precisely? If by "flaw", you mean, is there any reliable way to refute it with immediate advantage to black, then there doesn't seem to be one, as demonstrated by Minchev's excellent record with it.
   Aug-19-04 V J F Pablaza vs K Burger, 1983 (replies)
hollowone: I agree with <Andrew Chapman>. I don't see how this qualifies as zugzwang, since white is threatening to rip black's pawns apart. If it were now white's turn instead of black's, black would not be okay. Hence it is not zugzwang.
   Aug-19-04 I Farago vs Bacrot, 2004 (replies)
hollowone: Actually, again, 25. Ne7 is white's best move (rated at -2.10 at depth 2/10 by Chessmaster 9000). White's problems really start with 14. Nd2? losing the initiative and material. The next mistake is 23. Bc8, going on the attack when a more defensive move, like Rd3, Nb3 or Nf3 would
   Aug-15-04 Shamkovich vs A Anguiano, 1978 (replies)
hollowone: Hang on, the sequence in which he does the sacrifices is 15. Bxh6, then 16. Bxe6. If he does 15. Bxe6 first, do we reach the same situation by transposition? I believe so, but I haven't been able to check...
   Aug-14-04 J M Boey vs J Kalish, 1978 (replies)
hollowone: That's if black plays 28. ... Rg8?? The only two moves available at this stage that don't lead to a relatively prompt mate are either 28 ... Qxb2?!, a desperate and hopeless sacrifice that opens up the enemy king's position but won't manage to turn the tide, and 28. ... Rf6, ...
   Aug-13-04 Nigel Short (replies)
hollowone: Give us a break, CrackerSmack. I'm no Short fan, but you sound like you've got a grudge. Go sell it somewhere else.
   Aug-12-04 N Ostojic vs B Tadic, 2001 (replies)
hollowone: Help! I get a <> error message!
