labrats5: <KnightVBishop> very true. My point is that there are a few very possible scenarios where Carlsen's loss matters, but due to the 'Number of wins' tiebreaker, in the most likely scenarios this loss is no different from a draw.

labrats5: If Black plays the more sensible Qa4 then the beautiful followup is worth showing off: 18. Nxe7+ Kh8 (only move) 19. Ng6+ and white wins at least the rook, since if black captures with either pawn mate follows quickly.

labrats5: @andyatches If 34. Qxf3?, then Re8e3 threatening mate with Rh3, so white must go to Qf1. Notice how now none of whites pieces can move. If he moves the queen, its mate with Rh3. If he moves the Rook, then Re1 loses the queen. So now black can move Ba5, Bc3, Be5 threatening mate ...

labrats5: my favorite move of the game is probably 22...Bxf3, as black knows his white squared bishop will be useless after he seals his Queenside pawn structure with 23...d5.
   Aug-24-12 P Nguyen vs H Tikkanen, 2011 (replies)
labrats5: Why can't white go 35. fxe3? Black can't sacrifice the queen anymore because white has a winning check with Qf7.
