"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Jan-16-22  virginmind: Heya <moronovich>! How have you been doing? I do hope all's well and that we will be able to fulfill out duties of corespondence together this year, as usual. Or, are they not duties? What are they then? Well, they seem to be of a mixed nature, and for now I can't tell the preponderence of which is which and who's who. But I trust the fading of this nasty virus will also bring clarification on the said issue. Nonetheless, we should be able to continue unabated our strive for truth and good disposition here. What do you think?

Oh, Tata Steel has started, but no Alireza around? Hm, that's yet another point of dispute, I'd guess. But enough on this extremely talented young player, we don't want to arise discussion more than it should - not on matters unrelated directly to chess prowess. So, Magnus starts with a 20 moves draw, against Andrey. By the way, is this guy really as good as they say he is? We'll have to wait for more info during this year.

As always, yours truly.

  moronovich: Good evening dear <virginmind > !

Thanks for your post and once again, I hope you have entered the New Year in the best of styles.Hopefully the pandemic will fade or even vanish,, when the spring emerges. At least we can hope and on the optimistic side, we can see that the new variation is not as dangerous as feared. But in some respect, we live in unusual times.

I am sorry for not,due to some healthissues, posting more often, but I certainly see you as a friend and do indeed enjoy our conversations during the year ! Hopefully we will talk more frequently in 2022 !?

Do you follow Tata Chess !? Yes I think you do ;) The coverage is fine with Hess and the young woman (dont recall her name right now). After just two rounds, Carlsen in the shared lead and must be considered the clear favourite.Sounds like he has something he wants to prove, after the match and the failed attempt between Christmas and New Year. But 11 thrilling rounds to go, so let us see.

Meat balls in the oven and the potato salad is already done, so it is dinner time :)

All the best wishes to you and hugs to both you and Maria !

Jan-16-22  virginmind: Oh well, he did start showing his prowess, didn't he? :) And still, there's something lingering in my mind. Maybe Magnus was a bit ironical toward Alireza when he said he will only play against him in the future match for the world title. That, of course, if the young star already announced at the time that he will not play in Tata Steel if the organisers will not come up with a compensation for that earlier gaffe. Otherwise, it would have been a bit too hard, even for Magnus' sense of humour, to say that. I mean, he's too intelligent not to have realised that a whole bunch of chess players and kibitzers would react: hey, who the 'beep' do you think you are, Maggie? I mean, we all know you're awesome, but...give us a break, OK!? Or...he simply couldn't care less what others will think? Not that this wouldn't suit his style...hm.

Anyhow, I hope you manage to keep your health issues under control, and good luck! Pandemics-wise, optimism must rule, you're right, and indeed a change appears to confirm it, but still, so strange with those huge numbers of infections everywhere.

Hugs for you and Hannah. We will be fine, eventually.

moronovich: Good morning dear <virginmind> !

Weather is fine. almost with a tiny touch of spring.Health is ok and wife´s still enjoying her job at the university.

Our handball team is also performing rather good and has, as the first team, qualified for the semis. It is a pleasure to watch them every second evening and we must live with the "burdon", that they are considered the heavy favourite to win it all !

Carlsen also being the favouriti today in the big game versus the co-leader, Mamedyarov. But as in all sports, handball e.g., they have to play the game first. So let us enjoy while I send you the best of thoughts and good vibes, all the way to Iasi !

Hugs to both of you !

Jan-28-22  virginmind: Hi dear <moronovich>, I didn't see the match against France, but I'm sure it was a tough one, losing to a single point difference...well maybe next time. Denmark has a very good team, I know it from other matches.

Yeah, Magnus won that game, seems like he's playing his best and holding the first place, now that Dubov leaves the tournament he will have an additional win...let's see what he does today against Vidit (a dangerous opponent). Hopefully Daniil is having the light variant of the virus and will recover soon.

Just seen a cat in front of my window climbing a tree this mornig (we're at third floor). And after some winter-like temperatures for a few days, weather tends to warm-up here too, I like it (especially as they say February will be warmer than usual).

All the best to you and Hannah for this weekend!

moronovich: Good morning, dear <virginmind> !

Sounds nice that you are having a temperature that suits you better.I also saw a big fat cat yesterday, laying waiting in front of some moleholes. And wonderede how it became that fat and still som moles left ;)

Still some games left too and we are in for the fininsh, though the tournament has lost som of its nerve imho, with the unfortunate departure of Dubov.Hopefully it is the mild version,as you also points out...With Giri loosing yesterday, everything points in the direction of the champ.Carlsen the king of Tata, with nerves of steel ;)

And our handballteam lost to Spain yesterday, very deservedly, and now only the chance for third left.France, again and again. But we (Hannah and I) recovered by cheering for Sweden who played brilliantly and won against France.

Left is, to wish you a very fine weekend with the best of wind in your sails !

See you up the road.

Feb-09-22  virginmind: Hello, my dear <moronovich>! Life should still be OK in these places here, there's a spring light coming in from the window, which, of course, can't be bad. The more chances for an early spring, and summer, given, the better.

So we have a tournament going on, this should be great, in theory. That is, a big one. Chess is such a marvelous thing, you must agree. But even in a lower one, it still should be great. I mean, the feeling of an adventure going on it's about the same. It is just fantastic that one cannot tell the outcome of a game, mostly, and that no chess game ressembles with another (save for some small part of it, in the opening, of course - that part is often identical, but I'm sure you and I can live with this reality).

Fischer random? Who needs that? I don't. I mean, Bobby tried and succeeded in bringing fresh air to chess playing, but, apart from the opening phase, nobody has complained of boredom. Come to think of it though, I should be glad of having Chess960, as I'm not at all fond of memorising long opening variations :)

Anyhow, two of these guys will be among those who will get a chance to be ignored as WCC challenger, should he be unlucky enough not to be hailing from Iran. Actually not quite unlucky, as chances are he'll get the crown without a fight...Well I guess stranger things happened at the sea of Caissa.

That being said, I hope you're fine and getting ready to follow some games live (for some reason the video relay starts one hour after the first move. Hugs.

And thank you for dropping by.

I am glad to hear the weather suits you andmay be spring will come early this time !!?

Here it is frosty which is my kind of weather, but it as also fine that warmer temperatures are lurking at the horizon !

Health is ok after a period of stomachissues. What a difference,I may say.

And how about your health ? It is long time since I have posed this question.Hopefully all is fine.

I dont need Fischer Ranndom either and have been enjoying a lot of fighting chess lately.Glad to see the comeback of the veterans Nakamura and especially Aronian.

Do you follow the olympics these days ? I am absolutely thrilled by the snowboarders and their magic downpiste and in the air !

Hope you are doing fine and send my best wishes to you and to Maria !

Many hugs and see you up the road.

Feb-22-22  virginmind: Hi there! Health should be okayish, were it not for some small hickups, but I guess it's only natural at a certain age...I'm fine, thank you. I'm glad your stomach is better.

Weather's so-so, no more winter, that's for sure. But, who knows what early March has in the bag for us?

The big online tournament continues, and I guess Carlsen had a say in this (or am I wrong?), so those players can be happy they keep playing and earning money during the pandemic.

It's a strange life, sometimes...But I guess it all depends on our expectations. Not to mention some may like it like that, strange implying thrill added here and there. Djokovic...he didn't seem to care much what his pro-vaccine fans think about him now. And still, who loved/highly appreciated him, still does it, no matter his attitude in this matter.

Putin acknowledging the eastern Ukraine regions independence? Oh well, who am I to, you know, dwelll into this business. Or maybe I should. I'll just wait a few more days though. Anyhow, be it a complex matter as it is (historically and otherwise), it's clearly not something people should accept. Even with the danger of losing what Europe is having for some 75 years - peace? Well I don't know, it's debatable. I admit someone may ask: what about the millions of Russians living in eastern Ukraine? OK, but minorities are everywhere in Europe, inhabiting peacefully for decades or centuries. I mean, this guy really doing what he feels like (or almost) and getting away with it? We're living, ahem, interesting times...

Hugs and let's hope for the better.

Feb-27-22  virginmind: So, there's war after all. Putin lied about the reason he brought 150,000 soldiers near the Ukrainian border, and he couldn't care less of what people think about him now. This is a clear sign of serious mental disorder. He even dared to say he is open to peace negotiations only if the Ukrainians will surrender - and expects to be taken seriously and seen as a decent human being.

Bravo for the fearless fighting Ukrainian people! We should help their refugees in every way we can.

Hugs.

moronovich: Good morning my dear <virginmind> !

Thanks a lot for both of your posts !

Here the prespring is starting. So it does every year and here in 2022, we need some more comforting news, dont we !?

Yes Putin is clearly a very brutal man, with complete lack of empathy and it is heartbreaking to witness the suffering of the ukrainian people ): May he fall in a very very deep hole.

I pray for peace every morning and just before
I go to sleep. But it almost feels, like God is more busy than usual...

Here things are ok/fine, according to circumstances. We are enjoying each others company a lot.And what a player Magnus is.Incredible he managed to win this last tournament, after having had corona !! All my hats off for him.

Hereby I send all my best and sincere wishes to you and Maria. you also enjoy the daily life as much as possible, during these speciel times we are living in.

Lots of hugs !

Mar-01-22  virginmind: This shouldn't have happened. It's absurd, people's wellbeing depending on a madman. Everything turned upside down. I don't think it can last long though, what with the international reactions, conditions for the average Russian will become unsufferable - so some of those near putin will take him down from power. Hopefully before he will do further damage.

God help the Ukrainians. God help us all

moronovich: Good morning my dear <virginmind> !

Here it is sunday morning. The sky is deep blue and on our stairs to the first floor are yellow flowers.Let us hope it is a symbol for a better future as well as spring is just around the corner.

But surely Putin is a madman. An extremy brutal one with seemingly no conscience and knnowledge about the damage he is causing.

It really takes good nerves to cope with this situation. And for the moment I dont follow the news as I can unfortunately dont do anthing about the situation and it only takes me down. But I am aware of the big lines.

I sincerely hope that also you and Maria may find the best possible way through all this and I send you all my best regards and you are in my heart and thougts.

Today is the start of the first classic bicykelrace.Paris-Nice, which ends next sunday. This is just what doctor ordered ;)

My bladder has improved and nightsleep as well.I am very gratefull and relieved.

Many, many hugs and looking forward to see you up the road.

Mar-31-22  virginmind: Hi my dear, sorry for the late reply. No headaches for a week. What happened was that, when I got a bit of pain and about to take the Panadol, I only drank the water, without taking the pill. And it worked, the ache went away. Up to this evening, when it didn't work anymore. Oh well, at least I have a new method to try.

Followed some chess, like the EICC. Congrats to Magnus for winning that charity tournament. As for the war situation, you know hot it goes. We'll wait and watch the news, what else? Such an unbelievable thing.

Today it was warm here, tomorrow we'll have 26 Celsius, but on Sunday early morning minus one. I guess it's called April weather.

As for the rest, the usual stuff. Some job related works to follow. All the best, my friend.

moronovich: Good morning, my dear <virginmind> !

And thanks a lot for dropping by.It is always good to hear from you !

26 degrees, holy moses. Here it it is frost during the nights, though spring is slowly, but shurely emerging.

Today, starting as early as 10 o´clock, there is my favourite, as you know : A big classic bicycelrace : Flandern. I am really looking forward to see it.."Free tickets" in my big black chair and bets are made at the bookies. Around 17 we have the winner, so it is a long story, compareable to a good game of chess ;)

I struggel with some extra dizyness, but hope it will go back to normal, as it usually does.

Otherwise life is fine/ok and the pandemic is on the return for the moment.Fingers crossed !

Yes, the war is an unbeliveable situation, but it seems there are some hopes for a kind of truce.I sincerely hope so, as no one has any benefit from Putins idiocy.

Hope alll is well, with your daily work too, in Iasi and I send you and Maria too, all the best regards and may you have the best sunday possible.

See you up the road.

Many hugs too, from good old little Denmark.

Apr-23-22  virginmind: Hi my dear, and a belated Happy Ester for you - sorry for being late, Our Easter celebration is only tomorrow, but I should have known better about the Catholic one. I hope you and Hannah are fine.

I've been looking a bit to the Norway-Ukraine match, only that I don't see Chucky or Carlsen on video. It's been mostly usual times here, nothing much to mention. Tomorrow we're heading to Onesti/Pancesti for the first time in a long time. Maria is eager to see her sister again. We'll probably have some alternating thunderstorms on the way on the countryside, and if so well skip Pancesti and return straight to Iasi.

How are you? How was the Flandern bicycle race? What about the dizziness issue - did it go away? If I remember well, the doctor didn't find its cause as yet? Hopefully it's not bothering you much though.

The war in Ukraine is still going on, Mariupol is already a martir city - but what a proof of bravery the Ukrainians soldiers have been showing!...Two months.

Hugs to you and Hannah, and let's hope we're going to have some good news soon.

moronovich: Good evening my dear <virginmind> !

And now it is my turn for being sorry in that late response. But there has been some colon issues which have drained some of my otherwise fine energy. But fortunately now things are going in a better direction and it is blooming springtime inside, as well as outside.

My sister was here a fortnight ago in 3 consecutive days and it was great to see her again. Especially it was a true delight to realize, how fine she and Hannah get along ! Like two sisters who have known each other a full lifetime.

Personally I am enjoying the springtime (though I prefer autum and winter, as you know ;) and life in general. Was e.g. for the first time in half a year with my friend Jan in town (Aarhus) 10 days ago. So great to be in his company again. Not to mention the first pint(s) for ages ;) Great taste ....

I dont follow chess that much these days. It all occur a bit repetetive to me, but hopefully the appetite will come back...

But cycling is still cloe to my heart and I enjoy it immensely. And my wallet too ;)

Hope you are doing well in Iasi, this great city of yours and I can imagine you love the higher temperatures coming your way this time of the year. Hope all is fine with your health and in the overall picture that life is mercifull to you and your loved ones. So please recieve my hugs to you and your wife, Maria, and once again: sorry for being so late !

HOKA HEY

and all the best.

May-22-22  virginmind: Hi my dear <moronovich>, lovely days lately in this part of the continent. The feeling was not the highest ever, but one gets used to ups and downs. It's great that your sister gets along well with Hannah. My sister and brother in law from Ermont returned from a trip to the USA last week (New York, Washington DC, Miami) and they pretty much enjoyed it.

Colon issues, hm, well I'm glad that at least things are going in a better direction. I trust you follow strictly the doctor's advice and keep the symptoms under surveillance. Wish you good luck and hopefully no more issues of this type.

I've been following the Superbet sponsored tournements, especially the one in Bucharest, where Bogdan Daniel Deac had a very good performance in the company of much higher rated opposition. This guy should be soon over 2700.

I can't say I'm satisfied with my chess performance in the past two weeks or so, only one win and one draw, all the other games lost and I will not say how many - a lot :) I dont remember the last time such a bad series occured. But I've got a feeling that things will be under control again, soon.

Maria was for two days to see her sister in Onesti, and I'm going to wait for her this afternoon at the bus station. They are quite close to each other, and now that the pandemy is almost over (or at least no more requirements for mask wearing etc.), she also goes by public transportation. Last week she took the train to Bucharest for a few days too.

Hoka hey and hugs to Hannah and you.
