periscope has kibitzed 10 times to chessgames   [less...]
   Apr-08-07 Kavalek vs E Formanek, 1970 (replies)
periscope: I agree with razaraham that 27. Qa6+ wins with far more efficiency than the knight move actually made, even though the latter has it's elegance.
Mar-08-07 A Vragoteris vs Dusan Rajkovic, 1994 (replies)
periscope: 25. Qxf1 is better than the rook but it still loses as black is then left with a mop up after 25. ... QxB, 26. QxQ,RxB and then the attrition begins.
   Mar-01-07 Nezhmetdinov vs P Ermolin, 1946 (replies)
periscope: I don't understand white's 14. Be3, when 14. Qd8 would have been mate.
Oct-17-06 Spassky - Fischer World Championship Match (1972) (replies)
periscope: Kramnik almost walked out on the recent World Champion match with Topalov. I heard that Putin had to call him to get him to go back and finish the tournement. The terrible shame is that if Fischer didn't suffer from serious schizophrenia and had played against Karpov and Kasparov,
Sep-28-06 Botvinnik vs Smyslov, 1954 (replies)
periscope: Botvinnik was a great player but refused (feared) to play Fischer for the title. I've always thought his championship years when he denied Fischer a challenge should be asterisked.
Sep-26-06 Botvinnik vs Tal, 1960 (replies)
periscope: A computer says that Tal's move is unsound, but neither Botvinnik, nor any other opponent of Tal's could think that. Not with Tal's reputation for winning sacrifices. As Tal reputedly told a young Kasparov once, "First you make the sacrifice, then you calculate!" And you also cash
Sep-01-06 Karpov vs Topalov, 1994 (replies)
periscope: Karpov is one of the great players of our time. In my judgement he ranks up there with Kasparov and Fischer. This game is just one of many that prove the point.
   Aug-17-06 Tal vs F Olafsson, 1959 (replies)
periscope: Incredibly well conceived movement of the pieces all over the board by Tal. He took one of blacks rooks out of the game early and then marches a pawn to victory, after forcing the opposing king to his back rank.
Aug-15-06 Karpov vs Uhlmann, 1973 (replies)
periscope: Karpov is an amazing position player! In the all-time rankings, he has to rate with Kasparov, Fischer and a few others!
Aug-03-06 F Izeta Txabarri vs Karpov, 2003 (replies)
periscope: Rci must be a mistake. RxBck wins for black as once the King takes back, the Knight forks the King (Ne3ck) and takes back the white rook.
