problemist
Member since Oct-18-04 · Last seen Jul-22-22
I am mainly interested in chess problems (member of BCPS and Schwalbe) and chess history (especially Emanuel Lasker) but also follow the news in chess playing (though I am no longer an active player). Maybe I'll start composing problems someday, currently I am just a solver regularly solving and commenting on the website "Bruno's chess problem of the day."

problemist: The wQ checking from d5 and then sacrificing itself at h1 reminds me of a famous chess problem of Herbert Grasemann, Deutsche Schachhefte, 1950: [DIAGRAM] Mate in four moves

Nov-23-07 Ivanchuk vs Grischuk, 2007 (replies)

problemist: Isn't the final position won for white (after 44.♖xf7+, ♔xa6 45.♖xh7)?

Jun-05-07 Dautov vs Kharlov, 2004 (replies)

problemist: 33. bxa5 looks like the losing move. Is there something better? Black threatens 33... ♗a3 after which the pawn at b4 is lost. Maybe 33. ♖e2, ♗a3 34. ♖ec2 holds.

   May-25-07 D Minic vs Fischer, 1970 (replies)

problemist: What would be the finish after 31. ♔c2? (On 31...♕a3 white could play 32. ♗d3).

May-13-07 Schlechter vs Lasker, 1910 (replies)

problemist: 55. .. c3 was claimed to hold the draw after 56. ♖c8+ ♔d7 57. ♖xc5 ♖xc5. Fritz suggests instead 56. ♖a7+ ♔b8 57. ♖xg7, but fails to win after 57. .. d4 58. ♖g8+ ♔c7 59. ♖c8+ ♔d7 60. ♖xc5 ♖xc5 61. ...

   May-09-07 Bronstein vs P Dely, 1962 (replies)

problemist: Tougher seems to be 32. .. f6 instead of just losing the pawn. After that probably 33. ♕f5+ ♕xf5 34. ♘xf5 with a slightly better ending, but Black could still fight on.

   Feb-09-06 Vaganian vs G Botterill, 1975 (replies)

problemist: If black plays 12. ... Ke7, does white have something better than getting the rook + 2 pawns for bishop and knight?

   Aug-04-05 C Mayet vs Anderssen, 1865 (replies)

problemist: Why did Anderssen resign? Wouldn't 23.)..., fe: have saved (even won!) the game?

   Jul-11-05 Reti vs A Becker, 1923 (replies)

problemist: <mik> Actually, Fritz favours black after 26...Kh8. After 27. Re1, Qg6 28.Qg6:, fg: 29. Re7 he suggests 29...h5. On 27.Nd6:, Qg6 should be played.

   Jul-08-05 B Becker vs Kasparov, 2000 (replies)

problemist: 2.Qh5 was applied in two recent and serious games by Nakamura: Nakamura vs Sasikiran, 2005 Nakamura vs N Mitkov, 2005 However he achieved only 0,5:1,5.
