My life followed a random walk from various cities and countries.

I played most of my chess at school and uni, but that was a long time ago and it was only an occasional thing since then. Since I found the chess sites I started playing again, on the internet and also OTB.

Nice to have met fellow enthusiasts and nice to be playing again.

Hard to pick a favourite opening - maybe Najdorf for the fabulous richness of the variation .... or perhaps because it's the natural choice of the chess "streetfighter". Easy to pick a favourite player - the one and only Bobby Fischer.

scormus: I thought I'd got this with my 28 ... Be5, followed by the next 2 text moves. Never thought .... Nxh3 was the best.

scormus: Drat! First move I considered was 36 .... Nxf4. It seemed somehow "right", but couldn't see how it could possibly win. Thought I must be missing something. If only I'd known it should have been a draw .....

   Jul-08-22 A Ornstein vs D Prodanov, 1978

scormus: I wouldn't say this was particularly easy for a Friday. OK, five of the first six moves were easy enough to find, once you realised 25 Nf5. 29 Nh8+ looks odd, but is perfectly logical. For me the hardest part was seeing that W would eventually need to play a non check move with the ...

scormus: All I could think of was 29 d6, more in hope than expectation. Couldn't see ahead from there that 30 ... Qxd1+ was no good for B, but play it through and the <Brenin> line falls straight out. I lost interest a bit when I saw 29 Nf3. Great puzzle, even if the text didn't live

scormus: Yes, insane. For quite a while I thought W was winning. Only moves I could think of were 25 .... Nxe3 <Geller and SF> which I'd have played OTB, and ... Rxf5 <mel>, just because it is a puzzle. To be honest I didn't see how to make either of them win. Amaziing chess by ...

May-04-14  DcGentle: Ok, I was busy with analysis of other games, especially the 101 moves draw of Radjabov vs Carlsen, 2014 kept me busy, I hope that Carlsen would have had the chance to win this one, I even posted something in this regard on the game page, but it's unfinished business, and perhaps it's a draw after all. Could be. But Carlsen beat around the bush for 101 moves, I thought there must be more. Who knows. Perhaps. ;-) He could have sacced a piece in a certain variation, and still got a draw at least, would have caused some more excitement. This I know already.

Anyways, I'll annotate your game once it's finished. Not uninteresting, I must say.

Greetings,
<DC>

  scormus: Thank you <Wannabe> for the interesting game. I always feel I should win a game like this where the enemy K is fixed in the centre, but I am slightly surprised you resign right away. I thought I would win a piece here but I was not completely sure, I wondered if there might be a way out for you.

I'll be interested to see your thoughts. All the best!
