I play on FICS as smalldreams and I've been around 1400 for a very long time - for better or worse. :D I like games with crazy tactics and wild offensive moves, so my favorite players include Basman, Miles, Grob, Bloodgood, etc.

And now for some puzzles...

smalldreams: The big problem with ...Qb2 is that it turns white's Qa8+ into a zwischenschach after which white can eventually play Rc2 to cut losses. Black still comes out ahead but the position is less clear imo.

smalldreams: Is this actually a simul game?

Jan-25-13 Judit Polgar vs Shirov, 1995 (replies)

smalldreams: A standard "Robatsch" fianchetto followed by FIVE pointless pawn moves as white builds an intimidating center. My kid could probably look at the board after move 7 and tell you there's something wrong with that. Judit Polgar plays this game brilliantly and deserves credit for it

smalldreams: Regardless of how you pronounce it, if I sat across the board from this 2300 I'd probably be the one panićing.

smalldreams: btw am I the only one who keeps reading "Botvinnik System, Lethal Variation" ?

Jan-22-13 Cochrane vs Mohishunder, 1854 (replies)

smalldreams: <But of course there is an aesthetic argument against a pointless queen sacrifice, especially if it takes longer than the non-sacrificial alternative.> Seconded. I find nothing beautiful about throwing away a queen when it actually prolongs the inevitable win instead of ...

smalldreams: It's notable because people have talked about it for 10 pages.
