talmax: I'm not surprised that GK played the Berlin Defence, as VK played it very successfully against Deep Fritz in Bahrain. I don't, however, think it was a choice that suited GK's style of play.

talmax: 1. e4 g5 is known as the Borg Defence because it is Grob spelled backwards!
   Nov-11-03 M Basman vs C Daly, 1990 (replies)
talmax: Basman's the A00 specialist, with both White and Black, and he manages to win a fair number of his games. Not as a result of the opening, mind you, just tactics and strategy!

talmax: Not just you amigo - it rates on a level with dental extraction! :(

talmax: One word sums up this sorry mess - "D'Oh!" :-/

talmax: <Kulla Tierchen: In the aftermath Microsoft treated the young woman with all the class one would expect from such a company.> Hmm, Microsoft. Say no more.
   Nov-08-03 French Defense (C00) (replies)
talmax: Hey there Chessgamers! Any practitioners of the Exchange French 4. c4 out there? I've been looking for another answer as White to the French Defence (as well as the French Tarrasch) and I picked up on this after looking at work by Maurice Ashley and Josh Waitzkin. It seems to produce

talmax: <ksadler> Isn't it ironic that Max played Alekhine's Defence (although it obviously wasn't named at that stage!) against Alekhine, and in a World Championship Match to boot! Now if that isn't cheek, I don't know what is! ;)
