I love chess, but I'm not very good at it.

  moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> !

So you (and Norway) are going to the playoffs ….didn´t know that, but it is good news.Could make the winter a bit eaiser to go through !?

A good day today and it was nice doing some shopping with wify and decorate the house. After all : when it is Christmas time - why not enjoying it while it lasts )

I hope both of you will enjoy what is left of the weekend !

and yes Kolkate it is-though quite early.Brunchtime is different now ;)

Premium Chessgames Member
virginmind: So Magnus was great. Again. Well, makes sense: he's Magnus :) It's almost no news anymore. Maybe in some 7-10 years, it will be news: Magnus' still great! Or will he? Following, say, Karpov, or Korchnoi long living chess strength. Ok, we still need to see how he will fare in classical time. Shortly, in London. You, see, we keep needing/asking for confirmation. It's only natural, to some extent. OK, but until when, until...40 years of age? Even later on? Well, after that, maybe we will need confirmation that he's still the best, I mean: Magnus, you need to keep proving that you are the best ever. And after...60? Well, heh, who knows what will be around when Magnus will be 60? Best not think that far. You never know.

So some writing requirement still going on this side of autumn. It should be over, no sooner than a week though. And then Christmas fever and then...some writing here, and then another period of procrastination, and again and again.

See you around. Maybe in Jerusalem.

  moronovich: Good morning !

A little snow here this very morning and now it has dissappeared in the same manner as the sun enters the scene..for the first time in ages .Or at least this is how it is felt.Great !

The old body cooperates well today and it may even turn out to be a good weekend ;) Christmas seems far away, but the numbers dont back me up....

And time and Magnus !?..
He may very well rein for a ong time IMHO,but he is also a tustworthy guy who can be trusted when he says he will go on as long as it is fun(for him).Personally I think the best for chess is that he looses a mtch and make a comeback 2 years later to soomething that may turn out to be the match of centuries. But it will take a while most likely. He is in his own leaque for the moment(A rather long moment, you could add ;).India,China or perhaps Iran are good bets for the next winners homecountry. Time is a special thing.E.g I feel like
3-4 weeks sine we qualified, but it is only 11 days !

And time has once again brought us to another weekend which I hope you will enjoy and get further along with your writings. Please send also Maria my hugs and looking forward to see you again further down or up the road.Perhaps in the same time space as now.

Sorry for some misspellings. My keyboard is not fully awake :)

Premium Chessgames Member
virginmind: Heya! Again, late, but I hope by now you have forgiven me ;) No snow so far here, which is kind of unusual, expecting some change soon though.

Some chess games rather good. So before Jerusalem (where I was waiting for you in my last post) was to be London! For some reason, I thought it to occur later this month. Anyway, it was a different affair, and with Magnus ending third. But congrats to Ding Liren - he really appears more and more as the next challenger for the crown.

Our handball in Japan was awful, best to forget that soon. I see you are out of chance for the Tokyo Olympiad too, but let's cheer for your fellow Norwegians who will play against Spain for a place in the final (or was that already played and I'm late with the news?).

I'm fine and see you are too, which is great! Nearing the end of my job writing, which should be cool too. And of course about to look for a Christmas tree etc.:)

How are things in Denmark? Hugs to you and Hannah.

Premium Chessgames Member
  moronovich: Hi man !

Wonderful to hear from you again !

And so you haven´t had much snow either !?…. we´ll keep on waiting. What is life without real patience ? ;)

Yes it is the time for Christmas tree. And have I mentioned that I sold these things fo many years ? I did and it was great(and really tough sometimes too).Met a lot of hopefully persons and families I came to know a bit.At least here the right choice of tree is very important…..still have some money left from these days :)But as a private person I love to find the rigt tree and to see Hannahs happy face when we succeed !

We missed the OL qualification by the sligtest of margins ): The whole group of Danish players were in tears.Just give us one more little goal, please (try to imagine the voice of John Lennon :)

Tomorrow I´ll see a good chessfriend who has been professional for years and now has returned to his homeland.Looking forward to it and hope, knock wood, that the stomach, which is sill improving, will cooperate. There will be a lot to talk about.

So glad to hear you are are fin,and on top of that improving in chess. So besides from a white Christmas:Can we ask for more ??

I have, thank you, send your hugs to Hannah and it is all right back to you both !

virginmind: Hello my friend, 30 years ago I was leaving Resita, where I met Maria and spent 2.5 years as an apprentice lawyer. So (after passing the bar exam in Bucharest) I was returning to Iasi as a full lawyer, but...not with Maria - she was to remain in Resita and came to Iasi half a year later. As it happens, it was the same day when the Romanian revolution started in Bucharest (it began in Timisoara a few days earlier). And then 30 years of freedom ensued. Where did this all brought us? Well, here. Not bad, I'd say. Not bad.

And how are Christmas preparations going on? I take it the tree is already decorated, while gifts are still well hidden? Have an excellent day...

Premium Chessgames Member
moronovich: Good morning and good memoires my dear !

No,the tree is about to be bought in a few minuttes time and looking forward to decorate it.Our 25 years story in there (Kleenex, please). But the presents are in the house and I am looking forward to see her lovely face when she opens them.

And thanks for telling your story. How fittingly the revolution and the reunion occured the same day ! (Applause). You sound like a grateful man!?

Now off to the woods. The old christmasttreeseller is now on the other side of the fence ;)

Take care and big Christmas hugs to both of you!

Premium Chessgames Member
virginmind: No, I meant the revolution started (in Bucharest) in the day I left Resita (and let Maria there) for Iasi (by way of Bucharest, but I didn't participate in the revolution :) We reunited some 7 months later, when she came to Iasi.

Thank you, we bought the tree a few days ago and temporarily is in a cabin nearby, we'll probably bring it up and decorate it this evening.

2 days ago I had two teeth extracted, I should be all right. Weather unseasonably warm and sunny.

With hope and good thoughts.

Premium Chessgames Member
  moronovich: Oh,sorry.I stand corrected.

So perhaps we can give each some thoughts about christmastree decoration as we have just bough ours today. Not without unforeseen stuff ;),but that should all be solved now.It is standing tall and fine in the usual corner¤¤¤¤¤

Hopefully the time after the teethextraction will go well.It sounds good so far. I also became to teeth shorter this year and it took a while to get use to it.But it is fine /OK now.Just have to chew a little slower and avoid sharp edges. Weather here like you described.I am dearly missing frost and snow ):

With hope and good thoughts to you too.

Premium Chessgames Member
virginmind: I deleted my last night reply regarding the days following the extraction, as too 'dark'. It's Christmas time, not Halloween :) Now I'm fine.

What unforeseen stuff? Anything funny?

All the best.

Premium Chessgames Member
  moronovich: Good morning !

None unforeseen stuff. All is fine and probably we shall share several laughs today Hannah and I.And that will be funny. Take care and may you enjoy what is left of your preparations.

Were are you celebrating Christmas eve?
We two elderly will stay in our house and that is just fine, warm and cousy.

All the best and with Christmashugs !

p.s. no hard feelings whatsoever and none really "darkness" detected. The light is all around.

Premium Chessgames Member
virginmind: I think we will go to Onesti for a day, where other relatives of Maria will come, then return in time to celebrate toghether in Iasi with my family. Warm and sunny outside. Will leave the Christmas tree decoration for tomorrow, I think - nothing special probably, just use stuff from other years. Have you met your friends from town? How's stomach and colon cooperating? How's Hannah, I take it she'll get some free days from job? Hugs for her and you from Maria and me.

virginmind: We returned this afternoon (yeah, I drove a lot on Christmas, not so good I guess) just in time to have lunch together within the family, share presents etc. Hope you and Hannah also were having a good time. All the best for you and our friends here, for the rest of 2019!.
Premium Chessgames Member
  moronovich: Thanks my friend !

Dont hope you have driven too much !? And that you enjoyed the family lunch.

Hannah and I had the most wonderfull Christmas Eve were everything did fit so well, with a lot of warmth, laughing, singing, best of food and presents likewise.Bulls Eye ! Once again I wish you a Merry Christmas
and send you(both of you),all the best wishes for the New Year soon to come. And thank you for many fine sharing moments in 2019!

virginmind: Dear <moronovich> and <Count Wedgemore>, thank you and Merry Christmas to both of you!

I'm glad you and Hannah were having a great time <moronovich>. It's been likewise here, with Maria's family in Onesti, and then mine in Iasi. Of course we managed to do both meetings in two days, and share beautiful moments. It just happens that sometimes we need to go a bit further away (in distance) to be together. Blessings and all the best!

moronovich: Good evening dear <virginmind> !

Soon the Danish handball team shall play their first match in the European Championship vs Iceland. We are heavy favorites, but you never know. The first game is always crucial for the rest of the tournament. Wife is away for the weekend and that somehow suits me well ;)(you know it too,I suppose…).But then I´ll look forward to see her again. She is doing fine and I have also had a good week and was in town two days in a row which is quite extraordinaire on my behalf.First our 5 hours maraton with JWH,wonderful as always, and then KJ whom I have known for more than 40 years. So besides from some tinnitus, the old body is cooperating good enough and I am also enjoying being at the start at the annual festival in Wijk an Zee.With 12 more thrilling rounds to go and also to take a closer look at this seemingly extremely gifted guy from Iran.Definately a possible contender for Magnus, perhaps already in 4-6y years IMHO.

Never too late to wish you a fine weekend,or at least the remains.Looking forward to hear from you-it feels like ages since we last talked.

Hope all is well and please give hugs to Maria and yourself !

virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, I'm fine, but unfortunately my father in law (Maria's father) died this Monday, at 88. He was fighting dementia since some 4 years and died in his sleep early in the morning. I returned from Onesti/Pancesti where the funeral service took place, and Maria and her sister (who came from Ermont - France) stayed two more days with their elder sister in Onesti. Now we're at home in Iasi. I played over 100 chess games with my father in law in the past years (even while he was admitted at the hospice); he was a great guy, hard working and a strong character. God bless his soul.

Tata started today but I haven't got the chance to follow the games, just seen now that Carlsen drawn his game, among other results. Also the Australian Open is about to start shortly. But what a huge and long lasting fire over there, with such tragic effects...

I'm glad you were having a good time with your friends. Also that health-wise it's rather OK. I'm okayish too in this respect. See you around.

Premium Chessgames Member
moronovich: Oh,so sorry to hear that…

Would you please receive my condolences and also pass them on to Maria !? May God bless his soul.

It may have meant a lot that you played those games with him. Also when he was near the end. Perhaps this is the best thing with chess.A kind of lanquage that sometimes make us come closer to each other.

I hope you will go through it in the best manner for you. And if you want to visit Wijk an Zee there are 2 good studios:Chess 24 and that I can recommend.

Take care and see you around !

virginmind: Thank you. It really meant a lot, and I think that overall there were more, maybe 200 games. We were both simply enjoying playing chess, but of course we also had lots of chatting moments, and indeed we got along quite well (to the pleasure of Maria).

Carlsen confirming he's a slow starter, two draws so far. I'm about to look at the victory So had against Anand.

And may you both have a great evening.

Premium Chessgames Member
moronovich: Thanks-we shall give it a shot.

Duck is in the oven.Christmas eve - light ;)

And yes it is almost like amen in the church that Carlsen is a slow starter.

Take care so long, while we are watching
a very even match between Norway and -France.And if France loses,it is au revoir ):
