Welcome to my profile oh traveller!

I'm a <20 year old South African> male of Indian(Gujarati) ethnicity. I am currently studying a BCom in Business Management at the University of Pretoria (TUKS).

I learnt the game of chess by virtue of my grandad buying me a small magnetic chess set (which I still have) when I was 6 and my dad buying a book on how to play chess (which he still has) to teach himself and me the wonderful game.

My <favorite player> is the great Victor Korchnoi! Though I admire the games of <Kasparov> and <Tal> greatly.

My favourite current players are: Anand, Aronian, Morozevich, Kramnik, Topalov, Ivanchuk, Alekseev, Carlsen, Karjikan, Gurevich, Nakamura, Giri, Lagrave, and Ponomariov!

I play <correspondence chess> at http://www.gameknot.com under the same handle with a rating of around 1600. Feel free to challenge me sometime!!

My music preferance is <Alternative>, Rock, and <Heavy Metal> (specifically Melodic death metal and quite a bit of metalcore, symphonic and gothic metal) though i do occasionally listen to anything with a good sound.

My fave <bands> are: <<Tool>>, SOAD, Nickelback, <Seether> (South African), Dragonforce, Metallica, Fields of the Nephillm, Nirvana, <Linkin Park>, Prime Circle(South African), Creed, Staind, <Red Hot Chili Peppers>, Greenday, The Offspring, Demons and Wizards, ACDC, Led Zeppellin, <Lacuna Coil>, <Nightwish>, In Flames, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, A Perfect Circle, <COLD>, Limp Bizkit, Live, Marilyn Manson, Maroon5 and of course my best friends melodic death metal band: <Riddare av Koden>...

I enjoy any good read, but mainly read fantasy.

A few of my fave <authors> are: <Raymond E. Feist>, David Eddings, Robert Jordan, <Anne Rice>, Terry Brooks, Terry Pratchett and David Gemmel!

I play chess because I love it! I am constantly mezmerised by the game and constantly strive to be better! Had I the talent and coaching to turn professional, chess would be the only thing I would want to do!!!

Fave Chess Quotes:

"Chess is life." - <Bobby Fischer>.

"Any amateur can blunder into occasional triumph. The true professional controls things well enough not to have to trust to luck." - <David Eddings> (The Shining Ones)

"The only goal in chess is to prove your superiority over the other guy. I mean, your opponent must be destroyed. Fully destroyed." - <Garry Kasparov>

"I don't study; I create" - <Viktor Korchnoi>

MadBishop: Koneru played for a draw from move #1, Yifan for a win. A deserving result for the tenacious teen.

MadBishop: Qb3 for the vote. Let's try and keep this game as exciting as possible!

   Sep-05-10 A Antunes vs G Flear, 1988 (replies)

MadBishop: All I got was <24.Qa8+ Kf7 25.fxe6+> after which somehow 25. ...Ke7 never occured to me. Instead I analysed lines with 25. ...Kxe6 and 25. ...Kg6, hitting dead ends.

   May-25-10 M Bermann vs Alburt, 1993 (replies)

MadBishop: Nice game. 13. Ng5? is a mistake as 13.Nd6 seems to hold better. Luckily for Bermann, Alburt returns the favour with 13. ...Qxg5? , missing 13. ...Qxf6! The biggest blunder I felt was white's 16. 0-0-0?? when it seems pretty obvious that 16. Bf1 was the better move. White's last ...

MadBishop: Hey <Open Defence> Afraid I have no song/video for you, but I thought I'd share an interesting French blitz game I was apart of, where despite the time controls and an early 11. ...c5? blip, my pc thinks my play to be almost decent. Enjoy! ;) [Event "Blitz game"] [Date ...

MadBishop: To everyone I apologize profusely to everyone I defaulted to. My connection was cut temporarily and I was banned from all 'extra-curricular' activities until I completed my 1st year at university. That is all behind me now and I wish everyone the best for the rest of the ...

   May-18-08 Portisch vs S Polgar, 1991 (replies)

MadBishop: Very nice! I got 30. ...Ng4, but then deviated with 31.Bxf7+ Kf8 32.g3 Nxf2+ 33.Kg2 Rd3 at which point I was hopelessly confused! ;-)

MadBishop: GAME SUMMARY PT2: 11.Bg5 Bg7? <Way too cautious! Black's concern with development is clouding his judgement! He should instead be looking at ways to take the initiative from his opponent and interfering with his opponents plans and development. Correct once again is 11. ...

   Apr-28-08 Watu Kobese (replies)

MadBishop: Well currently, he IS the highest rated player in South Africa. Bt I won't let that deter me as I take him on in a simul in July! Watch out Mr Kobese! ;-)

MadBishop: Happy Birthday Kasparov! Thanks for everything!
