Morten has kibitzed 289 times to chessgames   [more...]
   Jan-25-20 Caruana vs J K Duda, 2020 (replies)
Morten: I guess if 43.exf6 black plays 43. -,Rxd4 with the idea 44. Kxd4, Bf6+ skewering the king
   Jan-21-20 A Firouzja vs Carlsen, 2020 (replies)
Morten: White’s position starts to look drafty after moves 32 and 34. Memories of Petrosian - Larsen at Santa Monica 66.
Jun-12-19 Younes Foughali vs C Woojin Yoo, 2016 (replies)
Morten: 21.-, Qxe5 seemed a good option for black….
Dec-13-17 Stockfish vs AlphaZero, 2017 (replies)
Morten: For once Stockfish did not get a bad bishop hemmed in by its own pawns. Oh, wait....
   Dec-01-17 O Bernstein vs Kotov, 1946 (replies)
Morten: I got stuck trying to make 51. Rxh6+ work and really should have seen the queen sac - echoes of the last Carlsen - Karjakin game
Nov-16-16 Karjakin vs Carlsen, 2016 (replies)
Morten: Great fighting chess so far. The players understand a lot more than me about what is going on and may read another meaning into the four games so far. But to me it seems that these games have not given Karjakin any clue what he can do to win the match. Carlsen on the other hand knows
   May-31-16 B Hammar vs E Jonsson, 2014 (replies)
Morten: Subtle queen sacrifice by White and Black fell into the trap. What happened after that is beyond me.
Oct-27-15 Fine vs Alekhine, 1938 (replies)
Morten: Alekhine, like Steinitz, did sometimes play on in dead lost positions. Will to fight, unwillingness to admit defeat and belief in himself. It did pay off from time to time: Alekhine vs E Andersen, 1935
   Jun-01-15 J Lammi vs L Andonovski, 2011 (replies)
Morten: Al Wazir, Working without a board here. But in you alternative line: 39. Nf5 Qxe5 40. Ne7+ Kh8 41. Qxe5 Bxe5 42. Nxd5, does Black not continue with 42-, Bd4 pinning the rook?
   Feb-05-15 Motylev vs S Azarov, 2009 (replies)
Morten: Did not get this - one contributing factor being that I was looking for "black to move". - Rxh3+ works nicely if white takes, but not if white just plays Kg1.
