   Mar-01-24 Abdusattorov vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

cuendillar: Surely not, might at least try 31.Qc6 Qxc6 32.Rxc6 Rb8 (32...Bd3 is better) 33.a5 with a clear edge. No point offering a draw before trying a cheap trick that costs nothing if it fails.

cuendillar: How come none of his games from the 2023 Swedish Championship, which he won, are here? I think that victory deserves a mention in the bio too, as well as the fact that he changed federations to SWE in 2022.

Mar-15-22 Alatortsev vs Boleslavsky, 1942 (replies)

cuendillar: I don't think Nf6 is necessary. The prosaic 37...Rxh6+ 38.Dxh6 Rh5+ 39.Qxh5 Qxh5+ 40.Kg1 Qxg6 should work too. White is tied down due to the mate threat on g2, so 41.Re8+ Nf8 42.R8e2 (forced) is useless for white.

   Feb-28-22 Airthings Masters (2022) (replies)

cuendillar: The recent EU-wide closing of their airspace against all Russian airplanes (including private ones) would make it logistically difficult for Russians to play in many events, whether they're explicitly banned to or not. Russia retaliated by closing their airspace against European ...

Jan-29-22 Tata Steel Masters (2022) (replies)

cuendillar: I agree that much of the criticism is due to how good computers have become and how much observers rely on their evals when judging players. I think they mostly fall into thinking "eval never varied much from 0.00" -> "it's a boring draw" or "Opponents eval dropped 0.5 in a ...

Dec-07-21 Carlsen - Nepomniachtchi World Championship Match (2021) (replies)

cuendillar: It's hard to see how Nepo's realistically going to turn this around. Winning 2 of the remaining 6 games against a player who recently went 125 games without a single loss is a very tall order.

Nov-16-21 Iturrizaga Bonelli vs A Chandra, 2018 (replies)

cuendillar: Two ideas sprang to mind right away, both focusing on the advanced pawn: 1. The flashy 38.Re8, since 38...Rxe4 39.Nf6+ wins immediately for white. 2. The prosaic 38.Rc2 followed by Nb6 Only then did I start calculating other lines of 38.Re8 to make sure the tactics really worked

Oct-11-21 So vs Sasikiran, 2015 (replies)

cuendillar: My response to 49...d3 was simply 50.Qf6+ Qxf6 (50...Kg3?? 51.Qxg7 d2 52.Rd6) 51.Rxf6 followed by Rd6 picking up the passed pawn.

   Apr-15-21 B C Yildiz Kadioglu vs J Gokbulut, 2019 (replies)

cuendillar: < MissScarlett> I know I'm not supposed to favour one race over another, but I nonetheless find marathons frightfully dull compared to the 100m dash.

   Jan-26-21 Louis W Felt

cuendillar: Sounds like a French king, until one realizes that W isn't a Roman numeral.
