Sep-12-16  pinoymaster77: Nice goings on here, out of GM Ino's games, would like cro777's annotation please for the games vs WC Magnus and the atake de pataranta last night vs Scotland's Greet please

GM Ino well on the way back to 2600 level. Sana makalaro din sa 'Millionaire' Open

Sep-13-16  cro777: In the penultimate round Sadorra played a nice attacking game against IM Greet from Scotland. When your opponent is under attack and has to defend, often having to find the only move to stay in the game, it is not easy for him to find key defensive ideas.

GM Julio Catalino Sadorra (2560) – IM Andrew N. Greet (2455)

In possibly today's main line of the entire Exchange Slav ( Symmetrical line 7.Qb3 Na5 8. Qa4+ Bd7 9. Qc2) Sadorra applied Aronian’s new idea 14.Bf4 (instead of 14.Bg3) from the Tromso Olympiad 2014. Aronian vs Navara, 2014

1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. cxd5 cxd5 4. Bf4 Nc6 5. e3 Nf6 6. Nc3 Bf5 7. Qb3 Na5 8. Qa4+ Bd7 9. Qc2 e6 10. Bd3 Be7 11. Nf3 Nc6 12. a3 Nh5 13. Be5 f6

click for larger view

14. Bf4 <The point of this Aronian’s idea is that after the exchange on f4, the e6–pawn will be a bit vulnerable, and the pawns on d4 and f4 do a good job of containing the centre.>

14…g6? <Greet answered with a new move in this position (14…Nxf4, 14…f5 and 14…Rc8 was tried before). This move weakens Black's kingside and doesn't look sound. Sadorra replied with a direct attack.>

15. Bxg6+ hxg6 16. Qxg6+ Kf8 17. Bh6+ Rxh6 18. Qxh6+ Ng7 19. h4 Kg8 20. Rh3

Greet didn't defend accurately and then made a key mistake.

23…Bf8? 21. Ng5 fxg5 22. hxg5

22...Ne7? <This was the decisive mistake. 22…Kf7 was necessary.>

23. g6! Nxg6 24. Qxg6 Qb6 25. O-O-O Bxa3 26. Qh7+ Kf8 27. Qc2 Bxb2+ 28. Qxb2 Qxb2+ 29. Kxb2 Kf7 30. Rdh1 b5 31. Rf3+ Kg8 32. Rfh3 Kf7 33. Ne2 b4 34. Rf3+ Kg8 35. Nf4 Rf8 36. Rh8+ Kxh8 37. Ng6+ Kg8 38. Rxf8+ Kh7 39. Rd8 Bb5 40. Nf8+ Kh6 41. Nxe6 1-0

GM Zhao, Z. 2550 (AUS) vs GM Gomez, J. P. 2492 (PHI)

Sep-13-16  pinoymaster77: Thanks cro777 sa pagpapaunlak on GM Ino's game (parang saking batil eh 'Tal-like' attack?) vs IM Greet, na greet sya with sacrifices to expose his king to attacks !
Sep-13-16  pinoymaster77: Will lookout for the game vs WC Magnus please, am curious on each side's mistakes / oversights

May signs ba na WC Magnus underestimated his opponent?

Sep-13-16  Virgil A: You did your country proud. Good job, Julio.

Happy Birthday!

Sep-13-16  cro777: Sadorra about his game against Magnus Carlsen.

In the sixth round of the Baku Olympiad 2016 The Philipines met Norway. On the top board Julio Sadorra drew Magnus Carlsen with the black pieces.

Sadorra's press conference after the game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvw...

The game started in style: Leyla Aliyeva, the first daughter of the President of Azerbaijan and editor-in-chief of style magazine "Baku: Art. Culture. Wild", made the first move for Magnus.

http://mattogpatt.no/wp-content/upl...

As Sadorra pointed out, at the Olympiad, hiding his preparations for the World Championship match in November, Magnus Carsen avoided the mainstream openings. Against Sadorra he opted for a rare line (6.c5) of the French Defense Exchange Variation:

1. e4 e6 2. Nf3 d5 3. exd5 exd5 4. d4 Bd6 5. c4 Nf6

click for larger view

The main move here is 6.Nc3. According to John Watson, one of the leading experts in the French Defense, 6.c5 selected by Magnus is playable. He suggests 6…Be7 7.Bd3 b6! Magnus opted for 7.Nc3. He was slightly better out of the opening.

In the middlegame Sadorra made a mistake by playing 20…Bg6? (the correct move was 20…Be4 followed by 20…Ne5)

click for larger view

Magnus returned the favor by playing a straightforward 21.Nxc2? He missed a simple tactics 21.Bxc7 (after 21...Qc8 22.Bd6 he would have had real chances to win the game). Instead, he ended up a pawn down and was lucky to escape with a draw.

A video-analysis of the game:

Sep-13-16  pinoymaster77: Thanks again for the analysis cro777, French is indeed one of Ino's fave defenses !
Sep-13-16  pinoymaster77: Hsppy birthday GM Ino!

A chess warrior and gentlemen sila along with Dad Bing

Nice overcoming the headache spiel in the 1st half of Baku Olympiad

You have been our #1 player I think since 2014, please keep on doing so being PHI's top board for more Olympiads to come!

And may PSC / NCFP already settle the previous pledges, we have new PSC Admin that would seem to take care of the athletes more, Mr. James can help

Sep-14-16  wordfunph: happy birthday GM Ino!
Sep-14-16  spawn2: Happy Bday!
Oct-11-16  chessgm: Congratulations GM Julio Sadorra for winning the 2016 Washington Chess Congress. http://chessevents.com/tag/washingt...
