Mar-05-12
 | | Penguincw: Marie Sebag 4/4 at the European Individual Women's Championship (2012). However, still not much breathing room as 6 players are just half a point back. |
|
Mar-06-12
 | | Penguincw: Sebag drew her game with black against Valentina Gunina, which allowed Hoang Thanh Trang and Cristina Adela Foisor to catch up. Each have 4.5/5, with four victories and a draw. Six are just half a point back, so even less breathing room. |

 | | WannaBe: I wonder if Ms. Sebag ever met Kevin Landman or Chris Land |
|
Mar-09-13 | | waustad: She lost in the Frauenbundesliga round 8 against Marta Michna by not showing up for the game. There were 2 of these by first boards in that round so I wonder what they had in mind. |
|
Mar-28-13 | | waustad: While looking at the website for the Neckar Open I looked at some pictures from previous years. The photographer in 2007 must be in love with Ms. Sebag since he took so many pictures of her. If I recall she got a GM norm that year. She isn't playing there this year.

Oct-15-13 | | Refused: <waustad: She lost in the Frauenbundesliga round 8 against Marta Michna by not showing up for the game. There were 2 of these by first boards in that round so I wonder what they had in mind.> A bit belated answer. If your nominal board #1 is unavailable (for whatever reason), and you can't find a good 8th board (or in case of the Frauenbundesliga 6th board), it is sometimes better to leave board #1 empty and fight on the remaining boards for a win. And when you look at the strength difference from board #1 to board #6 it makes perfect sense.
From a practical point of view, you either have a (possible) forfeit on your lowest board by nominating a weaker player, or you have a forfeit on board #1 by leaving it empty. And distribution of colours is another factor. My team had a similar siuation last year. We could not line up 8 players one day, and had to decide whether we wanted to leave board 5, or board 6, or board 7, or board 8 empty. We decided to forfeit on board 5, because on board 6 and 8 we had the white pieces, and a better chance of scoring on the lower boards. That match ended 4:4 btw. and we scored 2/3 on the last three boards. Another way to approach this (which is not that uncommon in rapid events), is to let your weakest player play on board one, and then play the succeeding boards in full strength. |
