Championships
<Youth> He competed in the European U16 Championship in 1992 in Rimavska Sobota scoring 5/9, two from the lead, and in the World U16 Championship played in Duisberg in 1992, and scored 7/11, 1.5 points behind the winner Peter Svidler. Another attempt at the European U16 Championship in 1993 in Szombathely 1993 resulted in Iordachescu scoring 6/9 for equal fourth place, 1.5 points behind the winner Robert Kempinski. He also contested the World U18 Championship in Szeged in 1994, and finished on equal sixth with 6/9, 1.5 points behind the winner, again being Peter Svidler.
<Junior> Iordachescu first chanced his arm at the top level of Junior play when the seventeen-year-old contested the World Junior Championship in 1994 in Matinhos (in Brazil), finishing in the middle of the field with 6.5/13. He fared slightly better in 1995, scoring 7.5/13, albeit still 2.5 points off the lead, while he returned the same result in the World Junior in 1996 in Medellin. His final attempt at the World Junior was the most successful, his 8.5/13 at the 1997 event securing him equal sixth position, a point behind the winner Tal Shaked and co-leader on points, Vigen Mirumian.
<Continental> Iordachescu has participated in the European Championship since 2001. In the European Individual Championship (EICC) of 2003, he placed equal fourth with 8.5/13 to qualify for the World Championship Knockout Tournament in 2004 (see below). He scored 7.5/11 in the 12th European Individual Championship (2011), placing 22nd on tiebreak and thereby qualifying for the World Cup 2011.
<World> His first attempt at the World Championship cycle was in 1995 when he contested the Nikolaev Zonal 1.7b, albeit without qualifying for the next stage. At the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (2000), Iordachescu won his first round match against Michele Godena, but bowed out in the second round match to Sergei Movsesian in the rapid game tiebreakers. He placed second at Zonal 1.8 at Minsk in 2000 qualifying for, but not ultimately playing in, the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (2001/02). After qualifying via the EICC 2003, he played in the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (2004), winning against Ivan Eduardo Morovic-Fernandez in the first round but he again lost in the second round, this time to Sergei Vladimirovich Rublevsky in the second set of rapid tiebreakers. Seven years later, having qualified for the World Cup (2011) through the EICC 2011 (see above), he lost in the first round rapid game tiebreaker to French GM Sebastien Feller, thereby bowing out of the event. He qualified via the EICC 2014 for the World Cup (2015), where he lost his first round match to the young Chinese champion Yu Yangyi.
<National> He was Moldovan Champion in 2016.
Tournaments
<1993-1999> Iordachescu played in the Group B section of the Odorheiu Secuiesc tournament in May 1993, scoring 7/9 and placing equal second, half a point behind the winner, veteran IM Boris Itkis. He was equal first at the Dresden Open in 1996 alongside Edvins Paulsovich Kengis, Normunds Miezis, Ralf Lau, Vladimir Chuchelov and Jens-Uwe Maiwald. In 1997, he placed equal third behind Aleksandar Kovacevic and Vladislav Nevednichy respectively and in 1998 was equal third at the Bucharest Cup GM behind Leonid Ivanovich Totsky and Alexander Motylev. He was also equal third at Krasnodar 1998 behind Pavel Tregubov and Gennadi Kuzmin, second behind Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu at the Radulescu Memorial 1999, 3rd at the Porto San Giorgio Open 1999 behind Vladimir Malakhov and Gennadi Timoshchenko and equal second or equal third behind Mihail Marin and possibly Dorian Rogozenco at the Ciocaltea Memorial Tournament in Bucharest in 1999.
<2000-2003> He started the year with equal fifth at the Linares Anibal Open and followed with a clear victory at the category ten Ciocaltea memorial Tournament in March, scoring 9/13, 1.5 points ahead of co-runners-up Mihail Marin and Alexander Motylev. He was equal first alongside Vladimir Olegovich Baklan and Yuri Kruppa at the category eleven Kiev Spring Tournament also in March 2000. In early 2002, he was third behind Ian Rogers and Andrei Istratescu at the category eight Corus Invitational GM tournament and scored 6.5/9, half a point from the ten co-leaders of the Cappelle la Grande in February 2002. In July 2002, Iordachescu won the 5th Open Vins du Medoc staged in the French city of Naujac sur Mer with the crushing score of 8.5/9. 2003 started with an equally crushing win in the GM Victor Ciocoltea Memorial Tournament, scoring 11/13, a point and a half ahead of Attila Czebe, who in turn was the same margin ahead of equal third placed Andrei Murariu and Levente Vajda. In August he was equal second with 6.5/8 behind Rustam Mashrukovich Kasimdzhanov at the HZ Tournament in the Netherlands and equal third behind Smbat Gariginovich Lputian and Simen Agdestein in the Monarch Assurance held on the Isle of Man in September. He finished 2003 with equal first alongside Constantin Lupulescu with 7.5/9 at the December 1989 Revolution Tournament.
<2004-2006> In April 2004, Iordachescu was equal second with 6.5/9 at the 6th Dubai Open (2004), half a point behind the winner Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and was equal second behind Wang Hao in the Dubai Open held in the same month. Some time later in February 2006, he won the International Open at Calvi.
Team Events
<National Representative> Iordachescu has represented Moldova in every Olympiad from 1992 until 2012, in most cases on board two in combination with Viktor Antonovich Bologan on board one throughout this period. His game stats for the Olympiads are 47 points from 87 games (+30 =34 -20 for 56%). He also played board two for Moldava at the European Team Championship (2011), scoring 5.5 points from 9 games (+3 =5 -1 for 61.1%).
<Continental League> He played top board for AS RAT Bucharest in the European Club Cup of 2000 and top board for ULIM Chişinău in the ECC of 2001.
<National League> Iordachescu has played in the Romanian League in 1994, in the Montenegro League in 2003 & 2004, in the Belgian Interclubs League in 2004 and in the Central Serbian League in 2005.
