Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:
For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).
In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).
The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.
Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.
The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!
Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Svidler and Ivanchuk tied for fifth place. <kolobok> I give here: your predictions, the actual player's standing (between brackets), and the deductions in points due to the difference with the actual standing: 1. (2) Topalov -1 2. (5) Ivanchuk -3 3. (5) Svidler -2 4. (4) Leko -0 5. (8) Vallejo -3 6. (1) Aronian -5 7. (2) Radjabov -5 8. (7) Bacrot -1 Total points deduction 20. So from a maximum of 64 points that is 44 points. It wasn't so bad though :)!

Mar-22-06		lostemperor: Here the standings after two tournaments for the final standings predictioncontest 2006 (sorry for my short absence). I made some corrections (1 point maximum) for some who has a triple shared standings in their prediction. Some, including myself, has gotten a point too much since the software, however excellent , did not calculated the average player's standing but the highest standing. My sincere apolopgies for those affected by this but this was the ruling. For MTel tournament however, in case of a shared standings, the highest standing of a player count.
