Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

lostemperor: <Karposian> I think all three prediction games are equally fun to do:) The counting system in the moves predictions can be improved however. Now you need not necessary aim for the exact prediction but also to try to stay under since that would give more points. Like the three times this tournament where I predicted one move more than the actual game and got 3 points each, whereas 7 points each if I was the closest under predictor even if I was further off! And also you tend to look at other predictions since by predicting one move more or less you can get you one point more or less in the standings. But hey if that is the contest manager <chessmoron> system so be it and I am glad for the work he puts up:)

offramp: <Golden Executive: <offramp: <Golden Executive: Maybe this time <offramp>'s strategy can work, check this out: lostemperor chessforum (kibitz #5067) :)> Probably just a coincidence.> Mmmmmmhh......a fantastic one, then.

Well, the best thing I can do now is to wish you a triple crown. >

Last time I looked at the previous entries and thought yours looked very good so I copied it.

This time I'm afraid I copied you entirely out of mischievousness! 🌞🍀

If you win I'll make it clear to everyone that I copied you. I'm glad that you don't seem too unhappy about it!

Apr-27-16  Golden Executive: Oh, it's fine <offramp>, no hard feelings at all. If we win some medal(s), let's celebrate it. :)

lostemperor: <rogge> <SwitchingQuylthulg > and <WannaBe> victorious in the absolute ranker!!

<rogge> winning in the square ranker also. This time he did not have help from Magnus Carlsen predictions as in the Candidates tournament or has he perhaps? :)

<SwitchingQuylthulg> showing his form again by winning gold in all three tournaments of 2016 and has now also 8 Hall of Fame Crowns as Top HOFer <WannaBe> who also won gold and silver earlier this year!

New comer <Keyser Soze> won the Pair Betting Ranker over <Golden Executive> and <offramp>! <Keyser Soze> Jackpot "$23.00,Topalov-above-Giri" turned out to be worth gold with a large pay out "$7.67,LiChao-above-Giri".

The other Jackpot won by <alfamikewhiskey> "Harikrishna-above-Giri".

For the first time no missed chances. All pair outcomes have been predicted by the contestants of the prediction game!

offramp: When I first copied <GoldenExecutive> a couple of tournaments ago I did not realise how good he was.

I am afraid I rather stupidly copied him twice - more fool me! - and ended up in a very awkward situation.

I am donating my winnings to The Human Fund (Money for People).

This money will go to help make the Primorsky Steps wheelchair accessible.

Thanks again to <GoldenExecutive> for his acumen and very good humour!
