Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

OhioChessFan: Whew, I was hoping the last round might have improved my status a little bit. I see that <Penguin> has fallen just a little behind me in Pair Betting so I'm not on track for the Triple Clown at the moment.
Jun-03-16  Golden Executive: <$9.00,Giri-above-Karjakin, YouRang>

Seems like this jackpot will survive after round 9, hard to believe both Karjakin and Mamedyarov could beat Caruana and Giri tomorrow, but after today's results, who knows?

Jun-04-16

lostemperor: Mamedyarov beat Caruana in te pemultimate round tot make things tight in the fight for first place with Caruana and Giri tied first and Mamedyarov attracties 0.5 points frommelen thema leaders. Will have thema finale update after the final round!

lostemperor: Great performance of Mamedyarov in Shamkir winning the tournament with two wins vs the then leaders Caruana and Giri! Then winning the tie-breaker against Caruana!

<Suenteus po 147> is back in the predicition contest! Winning all three rankers! Another good result for <Golden Executive> and <WinKing> winning Silver, as does <YouRang> in the Pair Bettings with his first medal this year (if I remember correctly). A neat Bronze for <Penguincw> here also!

lostemperor: I will update the Hall of Fame and the annual standings next week. Next projected tournament is Sinquefield Cup August 5 https://saintlouischessclub.org/civ.... I hope to be here and not on holidays. If the latter, you can post your predictions though I might be late with the results.
Jun-04-16  YouRang: Thanks <lostemperor>!

Congrats to <Suenteus po 147>. Geez, three jackpot predictions!

Penguincw: Wow, last update I was last in Betting Ranker, and here I won a last round jackpot to steal the bronze. I'll take it!

Congrats to <suenteus po 147> for winning the triple crown. I believe he becomes the 9th user to do so, after <positionalgenius>, <Where is my mind>, <chessmoron>, <SloVice>, <cromat>, <Penguincw>, <WannaBe> and <OhioChessFan>. Congrats to all the other miedalists as well.

Weird to see Sinquefield so early this year, and also can't believe Dortmund and Bilbao cross over, but thanks for hosting <lostemperor>, see you then.

WannaBe: Well, there you have it, <suenteus po 147> got the Triple Crown!! Big congratulations.

And I ended up with pie and seltzer water in my face and the Triple Clown!!

Thank you <lostemperor> for doing this tournament.

Jun-04-16  Golden Executive: Thank you <lostemperor> for hosting and running the contest! Norway and now Gashimov Memorial have been pretty exciting.

Congratulations to <WinKing>, <YouRang>, <Penguincw> and especially to <suenteus po 147> on winning the coveted Triple-Crown!

See you guys next time.

Jun-04-16  WinKing: Thanks <lostemperor> for running & hosting a great contest with a great finish!

Congratulations to all of the medal winners! A fine performance turned in by <suenteus po 147> winning the coveted 'Triple Crown'. Way to go!

OhioChessFan: I don't know if I'm happy or sad that <Wannabe> participated. He stole a Triple Clown from me.

Anyway, thanks Yoda.

Looking back at my "predictions":

<<WannaBe: 1. Karjakin 2. Giri
2. Caruana
4. Harikrishna
5. Eljanov
5. Radjabov
7. Mamedyarov
8. Hou
9. Safarli
9. Mamedov>
>

It wasn't like I intentionally strived for the TC award. Maybe I should have... =)

Terribly disappointment performance by Radjabov and Hou, who I thought would really do better than +0 -4 =5. She is the world defending champ, for crissakes.

Should have anticipated that Karjakin wouldn't show too much, lest Carlsen gets a whiff of his home brews.

Anyway... Next tournament. I'm gonna buy a new Ouija board. Obviously the one I have is broken.
