Named after Samuel Standidge Boden, an English professional chess master. Born 1826.04.04 in Hull. Boden introduced the Boden-Kieseritzky Gambit in 1853: 1.e4 e5 2.c4 f6 3.f3 xe4 4.c3 xc3 5.dxc3 f6. Boden's mate was played in London 1860. There is also a line in the Philidor defence named after him, based on one of his games against Paul Morphy 1858. Died of 1882.01.13 died of scarlet fever (or typhoid fever).

Horwitz-Popert, Hamburg 1844 has been mentioned in context with Boden's mate. Though I haven't found that game in any database. I would be happy to receive an email if you find games with Boden's mate.
