Oct-14-08  pushkinfan: Adams does a nice job of finding the quickest way to lose here, but the position after 30. Ke3 is actually quite difficult to analyze. Lutz annotates it in depth in Informator 62 and 30...? is also given as an exercise in Muller and Lamprecht's excellent "Secrets of Pawn Endings." They deservingly give 30...a4? a question mark as after 31. bxa4 bxa4 white has 32. g4! where he seems to hold in all lines (the variations are really fascinating though I don't have time to post them this morning). The right idea is instead 30...h5 31. Kd3 a4 32. bxa4 (32. b4 e4+ 33. fxe4 fxe4+ 34. Ke3 Ke5 35. c3 Kd5 36. Kf4 g6 37. g3 Kc4! 38. Kxe4 Kxc3! ; 32. c4+ bxc4! 33. bxc4 Kc5 34. Kc3 e4 ) ...bxa4! 33. Kc3 e4 34. fxe4 fxe4! 35. Kd2 (35. Kb4?! e3 36. Kc3 Ke4! )...Kd4
