Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-15-07  shr0pshire: Beautiful. Portisch was ranked 3rd in the world some time in 1984, so I don't know if it fits for this game or not, but he was very strong at the time of this game.

Let me try to make some commentary one what happened.

Gruenfeld vs Bogoljubov, 1922
Rogers most likely studied this Bogoljubov game and gained some ideas from it, such as the king side pawn storm, and no castling. And he also may have learned not to snatch that early B pawn with his queen because it leads to a nice attack for white.

Anyway, a very instructive game. And a nice victory over one of the world's best at the time.

Apr-20-10  ChessYouGood: Amazing game - a game like this makes me realise how strong the big Aussie was on his day. Creative and bamboozling play - fantastic and inspiring.
Sep-24-15  fispok: Impressively holding onto the center, Rogers shows that two simultaneous flank attacks can be stronger than control of the middle.
