Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-22-03  refutor: in this position 7.Nh4 is a more modern move (against the "karpov knights" on e7 and d7) with idea to attack the exposed bishop on f5 Opening Explorer that's a position to look at for the theorists amongst us. is it better for white, after playing 3.e5 and going for a closed setup to waste a couple of tempi to get the bishop pair with the hope of opening up the position later? guys like nigel short and alexei shirov (who both have vast experience beating caro-kanners with the advanced variation) seem to think so. i'm not so sure, but i play this line as black ;)
Feb-08-10  rapidcitychess: Why 27 h4?
May-02-10  rapidcitychess: <rapidcitychess> That's a good question. Maybe space?
May-02-10  rapidcitychess: That end games is very insructive. Look how Seirawan gives himself *two* connected passers.
May-02-10  rapidcitychess: <rapidcitychess> Indeed.
Feb-27-16  clement41: Fine positional game by Seirawan. His star piece is his knight, vs the poor Nf3 that's limited ny its own pawns throughout. Understandable that he lures white into an endgame given the structure
