Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-11-06  ganstaman: Look at the positions after black's 20th move and 37th move. Without me actually analyzing or thinking too hard about the moves, it seems to me that while white's pieces look cramped at move 20, they are well coordinated. They expand quickly and easily, eventually taking space in all the right places. Black's pieces, on the other hand, get split up and turn passive. Amazing transformation of the position, in my opinion. Maybe black played inaccurately from move 20-37?

By the way, is 11...Bc8 theory? What purpose does it serve (my guess is planning ...Bg4, but I don't see why that would be so useful)?

Jun-12-06  SniperOnG7: <ganstaman> Yes 11...Bc8 is indeed theory. However, the goal is actually ...Bf5 instead of ...Bg4 to provoke e2-e4. Once WHite plays this move, he becomes less flexible. This allows Black to comfortably carry out his plans against the White centre. Hence, the play continues with: 12. Nh4 <stops 12...Bf5> h6 <threatens ...g6-g5 with the followup of ...Bf5 again> 13. Qc2 <prevents ...Bf5>
