Feb-08-04  lordhazol: White is troubled position after 14th move. How player like Macieja plays so careless at opening as white. There is no need to play after 23...Rb2.Game was over.

plang: 7 exf..dxc 8 would have led to an unfavorable form of the Max Lange attack because c3 is less useful than 0-0. 10 Bxc6?! is a rarely played alternative to the main line 10 Be3. A few months earlier at Selfoss 2003 Rowson had played 13 Qb3 against I.Sokolov and Black had gone on to win; 13 Nxe4 was new. Did White underestimate the powerful pawn sacrifice 14..Ba6? 16 Nd2?..Qxf2+! 17 Bxf2..Rae8+ would have won quickly for Black.

10 Bxc6?! has been played five times and Black has won all five; a small sample size but the weakness on the light squares created by the exchange seems difficult to overcome.
