Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-01-04  refutor: interesting endgame
Nov-02-04  PizzatheHut: Play on! I'm so tired of these GM draws with all of that material left on the board. There are plenty of chances for both sides :)

  Honza Cervenka: If 69...Kc5!?, then 70.a6! Kb5 71.Kxa7 Kc6 72.c8=Q+ Rxc8 stalemate. Also 69...Kc5 70.a6 Kd6 doesn't help for 71.Kxa7 Rc8 72.Kb6 Rxc7 73.a7 Rc8 74.Kb7 etc.

Honza Cervenka: By the way, this is (almost) a GM draw. Mr. Ludvik Pospisil is not the strongest OTB player (rating somewhere around 1900) but in correspondence chess he is quite "heavy weight" with rating over 2500. See for example http://ccn.correspondencechess.com/... or http://www.rochade5171.org/jubi/Sei...

  Honza Cervenka: <52...Re2 53.Rd8+ Kh7 54.Rd7+ Kxh6 55.Qc1+ Kh5 56.Rd5+ -+ -2.92 (16 ply)>

After 52...Re2 53.Rd8+ Kh7 54.Rd7+ Kxh6 55.Qc1+ Kh5 white has draw after 56.Rh4+!! Kxh4 57.Qh6+ Kg3 58.Qd6+ etc. Black King cannot escape from perpetual check.
