Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-21-05  notyetagm: Total domination by Black in the Najdorf.
Apr-21-05  fgh: And yet another proof that the najdorf is the most @#$%ing opening on the earth.
Apr-21-05  Hesam7: <fgh> Why??

<notyetagm> I do not think 7.Nf3 is the best choice.

Apr-21-05  fgh: <Hesam7>: Show me a refutation of the Najdorf and I will give you a wild applause. It's almost an automatic win for black, and that is the reason why I hate to face it. You just keep hopelessly moving your pieces untill black wins.
Apr-22-05  Hesam7: <fgh> 6.Be3 is pretty cool the leading GMs (Kasparov and Anand for example) had great problems with lines such as: 6.Be3 e6 7.g4 so after some time Kasparov played 6.Be3 Ng4 but later he gave it up and played 6...e5. So it is not so easy for Black. And for 6.Be3 e5 7.Nb3 the statistics are:

39.3% White wins
31.3% Draw
29.4% Black wins

6.Bc4 (The Fischer-Sozin attack) is quite good, playing with Black is not easy: Topalov vs Kasparov, 1996 You can also look at Kasparov-Short match in one or two games Short got winning positions. Also take a look at: Kasparov vs Gelfand, 1993

You should also try the English attack 6.f3.

Finally your choice against Najdorf depends on your style, but if you hate it that much you can play 1.d4 ;-)

Apr-22-05  fgh: My own style is a sort of Nimzowitsch in his later years, that is, 1. e3 and 2. b3. However, I have not yet switched from 1. e4 to it.

I play the Fischer-Sozin attack, but I'am not very satisfied with my results in it. In the past I used to play f4, which also wasn't very usefull.

Feb-27-06  patzer2: White makes a few less than best moves against Black's Najdorf and soon finds himself overwhelmed by the Black counter attack.

Perhaps Fritz 8's suggestion 17. Qh4 h3 18. Nf3 = would have held the position for White.
