Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-01-06  patzer2: White misses a few chances to gain an advantage in the middle game, and then slips into an inferior ♕ + ♙ vs. ♕ + ♙ ending where he makes a couple of mistakes and is soon lost.

Instead of 22. Ne3, White should have created an isolated pawn to exploit with 22. Rxd4! exd4 23. Qf5 Ne4 24. Qd7 Kf8 25. g3 Qh6 26. Nc8 Rb8 27. Qxd4 .

Instead of 28. Rd1, White should have played 28. Re1! Qf4 29. Rd1 to gain the advantage with an attack on the isolated pawn.

Instead of entering an inferior ending with 33. Kh2?!, White might have done better with the Fritz 8 suggestions 33. Rxe2!? Qxe2 34. Qxd4+ f6 35. Qd5 Qc2 36. Qc6 f5 37. a4 a5 38. g4 Qd2= or 33. Qxe2!? Qxe2 34. Rxe2 Rxe2 35. c6 d3 36. c7 d2 37. c8=Q d1=Q 38. Qc3+ f6 39. Qc7+ Kh6 40. Nf7+ Kg7 41. Nd6+ Kh6 42. Nf7+ Kg7 43. Nd6+ =.

Instead of 38. a4?, Fritz 8 indicates White has excellent drawing chances with 38. 38. Qe2! d3 39. Qe3 h5 40. a4 Qc2 (40... h4 41. gxh4 Qc7+ 42. Kg1 Qd7 43. Qd2 Qxh3 44. f4 Qg3+ 45. Of course Black missed a much easier win a move earlier in this ending by not playing 37...Qc2 38. Kg2 d3 .
