Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-28-06  bumpmobile: First off, a fantastic and tense, exciting endgame. I truly went back and forth and betwixt expecting a white win, black win, and a draw. My question is why didn't Timman take the rook with the bishop on move 17, 18, or 19? I see the lost tempo in having to defend the knight, but isn't that worth the exchange? Thanks in advance.

On a side note, Timman played the black side of this game up to move 13 in Korchnoi vs Timman, 1982.

Apr-29-06  Ezzy: <bumpmobile - My question is why didn't Timman take the rook with the bishop on move 17, 18, or 19?> If 17 Bxa8 Qxa8 The only way white can defend his knight is by playing 18 Qf4 to which black will reply 18..g5 and the knight will be lost.
Apr-30-06  jperr75108: This is a very nice game. Nd5 is a nice finish.
May-01-06  EmperorAtahualpa: 68.Nd5! Whoa, great move! Kind of counterintuitive.
May-02-06  percyblakeney: Timman goes for draw by repetition at move 25-28, Berg wants more but ends up with less...
Jun-04-06  Halldor: The position before White's 67th move would make a nice Tuesday puzzle. White to play:

It isn't obvious that White can take the rook and win, but the next move is a beautiful double threat, the knight clears the way for the rook to b7 and threatens a fork if Black queens the pawn.
