Peligroso Patzer: This game (together with the draw in Onischuk-Gulko) clinched the tournament for Shabalov. Here is a quote from the winner posted yesterday by another kibitzer on the CG.com page for this tournament:

<RonB52734: A quote from Shabalov after the game: "Huge thanks to all the fans! I'm so happy I was finally able to pull it out after so many misses earlier in the tournament. In the last round game Sergey surprised me with 2…Nc6!, which totally killed all my preparation versus Dragon or 2…g6. But I couldn't remember a single game of his after 3.Bb5. Does it matter that I'm not playing it? No! So the resulting position was very much in the spirit of pet variation 1.e4 c5 2. Na3 and I did the grinding!" >

  Peligroso Patzer: BTW, the official tournament site gives several additonal moves before Black resigned, as follows: 40. ... Qg6 41. Qxb5 Qg3 42. Qe2 Qxb3 43. Qxh5 Qg3 44. Re4 1-0.

Marmot PFL: Strange game by Kudrin. By move 27 every piece but the king on the back row. The Nb8-c6-a7-b5-c7-a8?! manuver, while original, is unlikely to attract many imitators.
