Feb-21-08  Riverbeast: Unbelievable white won this game, black must have fallen on time??
Feb-22-08  percyblakeney: The game is discussed a bit by Chesspro (they say that they didn't dare to ask Sutovsky what happened though...). Volokitin was the one in real time trouble, but Sutovsky somehow fell asleep or thought that he had made the 40th move already and lost on time:

Feb-22-08  hitman84: Crazy! Sutovsky thought he had made the time control probably there was a mistake in his scoring..

Feb-22-08  Riverbeast: Imagine Sutovsky sitting there, taking his sweet time... thinking...should I play it out for a win, just to torture the guy a bit, or give him a draw?

No point in just agreeing to a draw right away, right?...I mean, there's no way I can LOSE this position...Let's see now...what's the best plan for black?...d4 looks strong...also I could just advance the king...hmm....decisions....decisions...

Then suddenly he hears: "You're down!"

(This whole time Volokitin had been staring at the clock out of the corner of his eye)

Feb-22-08  hitman84: Volokitin thinking..

This is a technical draw. oh wait! lol he doesn't know about the time come on.. you can do it clock!

later. ah! I managed to win with white!

;)

Apr-26-08  percyblakeney: I wonder if the final position really is a draw with best play, it looks as if black would have winning chances by advancing the king to help the g-pawn. At least it looks a bit tricky for white to save something like this:

GrahamClayton: Apparently this was the first time that Sutovsky has played the Caro-Kann as Black in his professional career.
