notyetagm: 23 ... a6-a5??
click for larger viewBlack has just played the blunder 23 ... a6-a5??, thinking that he would simply push his passed a-pawn on to victory. But White gave him a very cold shower when he replied 24 d5x a8!, forcing instant resignation. 24 d5x a8! 1-0
 click for larger viewThe tactical point of White's play is that 24 d5x a8! destroyed a defender (<REMOVE THE GUARD>) of the <WEAK BACK RANK>. Black would be mated if he recaptured on a8 by 24 ... f8x a8 25 e7-e8+ a8x e8 26 e1x e8#. So he must remain a whole rook down and thus resigned. (CONTINUATION) 24 ... f8x a8 25 e7-e8+ a8x e8 26 e1x e8#
