Sep-01-08  socnegoti: according to cg's database, this line of the Cozio defense (3...Nge7)-- where the King has to move from check --has been played quite a few times in the past few years. i thought black went wrong when Kf8 occurs, but theory recommmends 10..a6 and black seems tobe okay.

Instead in this particular game, black plays a series of incorrect moves and Yifan rips open the kingside and forces mate.

Sep-06-08  Whitehat1963: Tuesday puzzle after 23...Nd8.
Sep-06-08  DarthStapler: Oh come on, who plays the Cozio defence?
Oct-20-09  Starf1re: Wow, after reading socnegoti's post I couldn't believe that such a horrible-looking opening could be okay for black. As advertised however, Crafty evaluates the position after 10 .. a6 as only about a +.3 advantage for white (probably about as good as can be expected given white's initiative). Crafty however prefers 10...g7. Has this been played in any tournaments? After 10 .. f5 the evaluation swings to +1.1 btw.
