Mar-21-09  computer chess guy: Better was 13. ♔b1 as played in the one other game I could find in this line. After 13. ♔d2? ♘d7! Black is at least equal.

An Englishman: Good Evening: So odd that something as passive looking as the Antoshin (5...Be7) can lead to such wildness. Nonetheless, Black's Rook gambit looks horrible and in the database 11.Qd4 appears to refute.

sleepyirv: "And then on the 20th movie he pinned my queen to my king on the e-file."

"Wow, sounds like you should have castled a lot earlier."

"Funny you should mention that..."

Sep-21-23  goodevans: Such an immensely complex struggle. I definitely missed a lot of the tactics first time through and no doubt have still haven't seen the half of it.

It appears the critical point came after 16...Nh5:

White has already made Black's sac better than it should have been through some bad choices and now he makes one more. He's reluctant to just move his Q because after 17...Nxf4 18.Qxf4 Bd6 not only would his N in the corner be doomed but Black's pieces are also ready to lay siege to his forlorn K. So instead he plays <17.Bc7?!>.

Maybe he was expecting 17...Nxg3 after which 18.hxg3! would rescue a draw because after Black's Q moves White has 19.Bxh7+ Kh8 20.Bg6+ Kg8 21.Bh7+, etc.. However Black found the only winning move, <17...Qf6!>.

If 18.Be5 then 18...Nxg3 picks up the R on h1 (the 19.hxg3 tactic would no longer work because of 19...Qxf2+) whilst if 18.Qf3 then 18...Qg5+ 19.Ke1 Bg4 traps White's Q forcing 20.Bxh7+ to save it.

So we have the game line <18.Qe5 Qh6+ 19.Ke1 Bd7>. White is powerless to stop the pin on the e-file since after 20.Kf1 Re8 the Q is trapped anyway. He got a R and B for it but his pieces were left scattered and in the end he was going to lose both his minors.

Great game. Might play it through a third time to see what else I've missed.
