Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-05-14  Rhialto: Bologan should probably have taken the draw on move 20...he should also have unpinned by 26...Qe8, although things are by no means easy: 27.Qf3 Nc5 28.Rc7 Na6 (aiming for a perpetual) 29.Rxf7! Rxg4 30.Ra7 Rc4! (without this move, aiming to interpose on c7, Black is in terrible trouble because White can play Qf6 mating, rather than take the kt) and White has a very nice major-piece ending.

He could still have resisted after 26...e4!? 27.Qe3 Rxd5! 28.Qa7 f5, after which best play is 29.Bd1! (the bishop must go to a4, not b5, so that it guards c2 and is not hanging in some variations) 29...Rc5 30.Ba4 e3 31.Re1! f4 32.Rxd7 Rxd7 33.Bxd7 Rc2 34.Rf1! Qe4 and White may be objectively winning but otb anything could happen.

But of course that is a computer line and two humans would probably not find such a string of precise moves. The basic idea of supporting ...f5 and blocking the White Q from e3 with his rook is not too complicated though.
