Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-10-14  pericles of athens: No win in this one?
Feb-14-15  patzer2: Black's 21...c4! is a clever defensive resource.

If 21...Rd8??, then White gets a winning attack after 22. Bxh7+ Kf8 23. Be4! , when play might continue 23...Qc7 24. Qf3 b6 25. g4 Bh4 26. g5 Qe7 27. Bd3 Qe6 28. Qh5 Bg3 29. f5 Qe5 30. Qh7 d5 31. f6 gxf6 32. g6 fxg6 33. Bxg6 Qe6 34. Qh8+ Ke7 35. Qg7+ Kd6 36. Bf7 Qe5 37. Bxd5 Bf2 38. Bf3+ Bd4 39. cxd4 (+9.56 @ 18 depth, Fritz 12).

Earlier, Black's best chance to avoid the pawn down Bishop ending might have been 14... c5 15. Nf5 Bf8 16. h3 Nxe3 17. Nxe3 Qh4 18. Nd5 Rxe1 19. Rxe1 Re8 20. Rxe8 Bxe8 =.

After 21...c4!, Black, despite being a pawn down, seems to have little trouble holding the opposite color Bishop ending to a draw.
