Apr-25-18  Grandma Sturleigh: I'm surprised to see Carlsen playing the Marshall. Doesn't he usually play less explored openings?

Yes, like Gollum, he usually wanders through the All-marsh.

Apr-25-18  Everett: Carlsen does what he wants. Never know what you’re going to get.

Clement Fraud: I am not surprised (at seeing Carlsen play against the Marshall Attack): All of the "anti Marshall" systems that I've investigated lead to inferior positions for white (than to actually accept the Gambit). Magnus Carlsen's play in this game is very instructive.

saffuna: Kasparov used an 8. a4 anti-Marshall opening against Short in three of his first four whites of their 1993 match. Two wins and a draw.

Short had prepared the Marshall as his principal response to e4, and never got to use it.
