Check It Out: Wait. There was some drama at the end. Before playing 24.Qd1, Naka called over the arbiter for a chat. They consult with another arbiter, who confirms it would be a 3 fold repetition, so the arbiter stops the clock. However, it's *before* Naka plays 24.Qd1! Naka then awkwardly plays 24.Qd1 to claim the draw. I think it was irregular for the arbiter to stop the clock before the actual repetition.

Anyone know more?

perfidious: <CIO>, had read nothing of any controversy over what should have been a routine matter.

The player on move states their intention of playing a move which will bring about the same position for the third time, with the same player on move in each case.

In a controversial case, <ray keene> was facing Donoso at Haifa 1976 when his opponent claimed a draw. Trouble was, Donoso had been the player on move the first two times the position arose and defended against a threat. The third time, Keene had the move, carried out the threat and duly won.
