An Englishman: Good Morning: Have doubts about 6...Bf5; the Ne7 might have been happier there, plus the Bishop might have had a chance to visit g4. Now if White suddenly feels like taking a chance, 8.Qd2 and 9.0-0-0 followed by the usual King side pawn storm would lead to complications.

An Englishman: Good Morning: Incidentally, 5...Nge7 appears only twice in the DB, and 6.a3 leave what little theory exists.

PawnSac: hmmm. will we see 10. ..0-0-0 ?
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: Does Nepomni f3 to keep the bishop?
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: bye bye bishop
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: ... but Pragg's doing 0-0-0 and then f3 by Nepomni is possible.

PawnSac: f3? doubtful. would create a hole on g3 to hit with Bd6. I don't know Ian would expose himself yet, not ready to castle. It also helps to congest his position. White probably wants to retain the option for g3. But in the meantime, create some breathing space and keep the structure solid.

perfidious: Despite the fairly placid opening, it appears <td> will get his wish fulfilled for a hard fight.

PawnSac: hmm. I was expecting a quicker Nac5 but apparently he's exploring other candidates like Kb1 or Rhe1 etc
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: Nf8 is one of those funny-looking knight retreats, but it perfectly prepares for the knight to jump out on a light square to defend the c5 square, which Na4 angled at. Now Nepomni thinks awhile since Pragg succeeded thus far at defending this key square.
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: pragg was able to boss Nep's queen off e2, and what is Nep to do on the c-file; he's not superbly equipped to break on c4.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Seems like Nimzowitsch's concept of overprotection has become necessary. 19.Ne2, 20.Rd1, and 21.c3 *might* support the d4 pawn sufficiently.

Seriously, the current position looks like it would pose problems for anyone below Super-GM level. For example, White has a bad Bishop, but it does a lot of good. My wild guess: both players will try very hard, but they will play equally well and the game ends in a draw by mutual frustration.

Apr-18-24  AdolfoAugusto: Meanwhile Naka has good possibilities, might Firo overextended his attack?
Apr-18-24  whiteshark: First white avoids the queen exchange, only to offer it again two moves later. The highest level of play?
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: pragg aptly used access to g4 as a way to trade. What is Nep to do?

Check It Out: While the exchange French has a reputation for staleness, both this and especially the other French Exchange with Naka vs Firo are complicated.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: White's Rf4 looks misplaced, unless g3-g4 grants activity. Looking at 29...Re7; 30.Re1,Rxe1+; 31.Kxe1,Re8+ and White has to decide which set of pawns will go unprotected. But it doesn't look sufficient to give Black more than equality.

perfidious: Looks as though Pragg might have a niggling edge here, but if so, can he turn it to account?

PawnSac: yea it looks pretty level but if i had to choose I'd go black
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: use this nearly seven minutes well, Mr. Prag

Retireborn: It's amusing that Pragg has repeated Vidit's "plan" of having his king on the edge of the board. May get away with it this time, though.
Apr-18-24  KingsRedAceDefense: oops, I interpreted the time conditions incorrectly

perfidious: Now any advantage has translated into better structure, but as before, can Prag make something out of (almost) nothing, a la Lasker?
