Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-30-07  Calli: Alexander D'Arblay, son of Madame D'Arblay.
Oct-27-08  sneaky pete: <Calli> I have reason to believe the Reverend Alexander d'Arblay was British.
Oct-27-08  Calli: Yes, he was. Madame D'Arblay was Frances "Fanny" Burney, a well-known novelist of the era. She married a French General, Alexandre d'Arblay (1754-1818), who was in England in exile from that Robespierre guy. They married in 1793 and a son, Alexander was born in 1794. The son died from influenza in January 1837. Fanny died on 6 January 1840. They are all here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/f...

[I didn't know about the "Reverend" part. Source?]

Oct-28-08  sneaky pete: <Calli> Source is Walker's 1836 collection of McDonnell's games. It has 2 games at rook's odds (including the one here) against the Rev. A. d'A. and mentions <D'Arblay, Rev. A., Three copies> among the subscibers.

Other interesting names in the list of the subscribers are: Bourdonnais, J.C. de la, Three copies; Des Chapelles, le Breton, Mons.; St. Amant, Mons.; Popert, H.W., esq.; Staunton, H. esq.; Williams, E. esq. (of the Bristol Chess Club); Wellington, His Grace the Duke of and Norwich, the Right Rev. Bishop of. Only the Baby-eating Bishop of Bath and Wells is missing.

Oct-29-08  Calli: Madame D'Arblay published extensive memoirs and does mention her son's occupation. http://books.google.com/books?id=dR...
Dec-24-12  Oliveira: <Sneaky Pete>'s mentioned list‍‍‍ can be found at: http://books.google.com.br/books?id...

MissScarlett: < On 18 December 1794, Frances gave birth to a son, Alexander Charles Louis (died 19 January 1837), who took holy orders, being minister of Ely Chapel, London, and perpetual curate of Camden Town Chapel.[31][32]>

Does this settle the matter of the DOB? I'm supposing the relevant volume of her letters and diaries would do so.
