Besides chess, I really like to watch good movies whenever I can, wherever I can... To me, the actors & their acting and story are all equally important in determining the quality of any motion picture. Thus, all of the actors and films I've listed below have made, each in its/his or her own way(s), strong impressions to me.

The following is my current twenty-seven most memorable movies:

Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)
Avatar (2009)
Easy A (2010)
Soldier (1998)
Platoon (1986)
Wanted (2008)
Jarhead (2005)
The Help (2011)
District 9 (2009)
Tigerland (2000)
Collateral (2004)
The Matrix (1999)
Braveheart (1995)
Total Recall (1990)
Body of Lies (2008)
Ballet Shoes (2008)
Blade Runner (1982)
The Departed (2006)
Batman Begins (2005)
The Terminator (1984)
The Hurt Locker (2008)
The Dark Knight (2008)
The Thin Red Line (1998)
Starship Troopers (1997)
The Hunger Games (2012)
The Social Network (2010)
Enemy at the Gates (2001)
How to Train Your Dragon (2010)

-- 03/13/13: The initial selection of my current twenty-five most memorable movies is completed.

-- 03/14/13: A 26th movie, Enemy at the Gates (2001), is added. The list may consist of up to thirty films.

-- 03/17/13: A 27th film, Easy A (2010), is added.

-- 04/29/13: A 28th film, Jarhead (2005), is added.

-- 05/05/13: A 29th film, Soldier (1998), is added.

And my current ten most "effective" actors, as of 04/29/13:

Mel Gibson
Tom Cruise
Colin Farrell
Mark Strong
Emma Stone
Michael Biehn
Andrew Garfield
Robert Downey Jr.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Arnold Schwarzenegger

-- 04/29/13: Mark Strong replaces Carrie Henn (03/15/13 to 04/29/13).

Expendable Asset: You can still obtain a copy of Philidor's book <Analysis of the Game of Chess> here: http://www.amazon.com/Analysis-Ches... . Book description: <This is an EXACT reproduction of a book published before 1923. This IS NOT an OCR'd book with strange characters, ...

Expendable Asset: <HeMateMe: Hey, who's the tall blonde in first place?> Don't know. Likely a four-limbed, meat-on-bones erectile who came out of some mammal's womb after nine months. I think I recognize her kind from somewhere--two eyes, two legs, two arms, two ears, one nose, one ...

   May-05-13 Anand-Carlsen World Championship (2013) (replies)

Expendable Asset: I've had enough of Anand sitting on his laurel drinking tea. It is obvious that he cares more about his useless title than chess. It is time for a new ambassador of chess, one with boundless energy, limitless passion and brooding intensity--Magnus Carlsen!

May-05-13 Max Weiss vs J Mason, 1889 (replies)

Expendable Asset: Why did Mason play on for eleven more moves after 36. c3? It's clearly a lost position for Black.

Expendable Asset: <RookFile: You know, the funny thing about this game is, I do think that if you showed this to some people, and didn't identify the players, they might think that white was an expert or something. (2000)> If you asked me, I would've probably said that White was ~1800 ...

   Apr-20-13 Pillsbury vs Schlechter, 1895

Expendable Asset: I meant 14. Bf5. Sorry. Also, 11. Re1 is better. 11. Bb1 is too early, if not too committal as well. It is better to leave the option of Bf1 open here.

   Apr-20-13 J Mason vs Schlechter, 1895

Expendable Asset: <ughaibu: 19.g4 seems to be the cause of the trouble, how about an immediate c5?> I think 19. c5 results in a potentially weak isolated pawn that Black can exploit. 18. Rh3 is a waste of time. 19. g4 is a damaged relic of the Romantic era.

   Apr-20-13 Tinsley vs Schlechter, 1895

Expendable Asset: White seems to have played without any (clear) plans. 23. Bxa7, pointed out by Mason, is more fitting to Mr. Tinsley's style as it leads to sharper lines.

Expendable Asset: <WannaBe> No, he is an useful asset. <I> am an expendable asset. The rules are different.

   Apr-20-13 Schlechter vs Burn, 1895

Expendable Asset: 26... Qxc5 was the right way to go for Black, i.e. 27. Qg3 Nd8 28. Nxd8 Qb5+ 29. Kg2 Kxe8.
