madness: Can you say wow? This game still stuns me after almost twenty years.

   Nov-27-06 W Maddex vs Tal, 1988 (replies)

madness: That's 10 minutes to get to move 45. Even worse.

   Nov-27-06 L Day vs J Hebert, 1989

madness: <IMlday> In my opinion 3.g3 is probably best. Wow--I'd had you pegged for a 3. f4 man.

   Nov-27-06 L Day vs R Stonkus, 1995

madness: <IMlday> 12..Ra5 was logical. Missing that, Black seems dead. What's going on after 12...Ra5? It looks like a total mess....

madness: I'd like to point out that the Suttles chapter in this book is largely by a third party. A few of the notes are paraphrased from Harper and Suttles, and a fair amount of the other Suttles stuff is by a guy who lived down the alley from Eric.

madness: <mack>The threat of ...Ng3# is overwhelming: 22.Qf2 (or Rf2) Bxd4; Uh, actually 22...Ng3# would be a better reply to 22. Rf2. 22.Bf2 Ng3+ 23.Bxg3 Qxg3; Fair enough, though I'm not sure this is resignable. 22. Bf2 is pretty ridiculous, unguarding h2 and all. 22.Nde2 Ng3+ ...

Jun-19-06 Petrosian vs Suttles, 1972 (replies)

madness: It was actually the draw against Hort two rounds earlier that got him the GM title, but apparently there was some doubt about this at the time. Having been screwed out of the GM title four years before on a bogus technicality Suttles wasn't taking any chances.

   Jan-22-06 L Day vs D Berry, 1975 (replies)

madness: <IMlday> 8.b5? was a tempting trap, but b4! looks like a winning counter-attack for Black. OK. I'd thought both players grab the rook and then White's development lets him get out, but I haven't looked at this in ages.
