Aug-05-09   0003: Yes,i look at the game and Mr. Umansky made a mistake also when he permitted the team to play the drawing move 19...h5! After that, he stayed mostly in his shelter, he only got the results of his mistakes.
Aug-08-09   kormier: i know the perp is the result of 35...gxf4.36.Rxf4,Qxe2.37.Qf7+,Kh7.38.Bd4,Re7 and we can grant him a draw offer but if 38...Qe7.39.Qxh5+, is this a drawn ending? HE would then have a whole pawn advantage over us and the force move 39.Kg8 he could follow-up with 40.Rg4(attaking g7 again),i do not know the result of this, maybe this is what Umansky hope's we play ? Tks, by,by.

WinKing: Thanks for giving the world team analysts a tribute in your forum <RV>. The team worked very hard as did you. I look forward to working with you & the team in our next encounter.

Thank you.

Aug-24-09   SamAtoms1980: I am touched.

All I did in this game was to post the busting of 35 ... Re6, 34 ... Re7 and maybe a few other moves, and yet here I am recognized by name.

Thank you, it makes me feel like I was a part of this team.

Sep-09-09   kormier: Hi <<RV>>, <izambra> the various chess programs are not conscious of "the many variations of the values of any pieces in each changing phases"; i would even thing that no conscious "International Grand Master" having enough time and knowing this, would ever consider an opening, or chosse a middle-game, let alone enter into an ending where he would not win. Higher always higher. By by

Is this not a engine spoiler. If i move 1.Qe6+ then it shows -3.63 evaluation immediately by suggesting 1...Kb8 but if 1....Qd7 then it shows evaluation at zero. once again after 1...Qd7 2.Qg8+ Qd8 3. Qe6+ Kb8. What i do not understand is why engine (Deep shredder 11) do not incorporate future possibility of moving of king to b8 at the time it gives zero evaluation. i do not see any other move. even engine do not see any other move then why it changes evaluation from -3.63 to zero in intermediate move. My question is should not evaluation be remain at -3.63. Is it a engine glitch or something wrong with engine (kkshethin@gmail.com, Thanks)

RandomVisitor: <kkshethin>The score is set to 0.00 as a strategy. Black missed finding the winning move, 1...Kb8, and might miss finding it again. The score is set to 0.00 and white repeats the position, hoping that black will miss the winning move a second time, and then white can repeat the position a 3rd time, forcing a draw. Black might be in time pressure, or just be a weaker program.

Chess programs typically score the first repetition as 0.00 as an incentive for them to find something better, that is all.

zanshin: Hey <RV>. Did you ever get a clear response to your post in the forums on whether or not Rybka is inflating node counts? Also, how does this jibe with the widespread consensus that she also under-reports ply depth? Thanks for any insights.

RandomVisitor: <zanshin>It seems that Vasik is counting nodes in a way that suits his purposes, but which he has not precisely defined.

As far as under-reporting ply depth, the concept is somewhat vague due to the excessive amount of search extensions performed, for certain moves. For example, Rybka might, at 14-ply, search the leading move to a depth of 20-ply and the others to a depth of 12 ply. Again, Vasik does not explain what he does. Perhaps he will reveal more over time, when he becomes convinced that no competitor will use the information he provides.

zanshin: Thanks <RV>. I can understand (sort of) the desire to use misleading node and ply counts to prevent other engine programmers from getting too many clues. Still, I would tend to overstate them instead of under-report ... better for marketing purposes. But I am not one to give Vas advice as he seems to be doing fine on his own ;-)
Oct-28-09   truefriends: Hi RV! I am playing online CC using the free Rybka 2.2 and there is this guy who is beating me over and over again. Maybe he is just using R3. Could you (or anyone with R3 who visits this forum) please do a quick R3 analyse of our current game so i know if i am in trouble yet?

zanshin: <truefriends> I think you're still ok. At d=23, the Rybka 3 eval is exactly +0.00.
