Sep-29-08 | | danielpi: When does the Fall leg start? |
Sep-29-08 | | danielpi: <mal> I just find discrepancies between the odds and my own intuitions about what the odds ought to be, and I bet on the undervalued side. It turns out that my intuitions are a bit better than the "common wisdom", and I'm thereby able to scoop up some cash in the margins. I figure if I can go from 1,000 to 10,000 in one month -- playing conservatively -- it's a good strategy. We shall see if that's sufficient when I go all-out in the coming legs. I felt a little bit constrained since I hadn't yet qualified for the winter leg. The fall and winter should be interesting. I'm looking for a free membership -- and maybe some extra goodies, too. And FYI, I seem to have a particular knack for predicting WCC winners. I have determined that I will be #1 next time around. The only question is whether I will have the most chessbucks or the most debt. :-P Cheers, in any case.

Sep-30-08 | | malthrope: <danielpi: The only question is [...]> Well, at least now you have some untested theories and concepts to play around with... Setting goals are always a good idea but sometimes you'll find that they turn out to be even harder to meet. Lastly, without 'Lady Luck' shining down on you - you ain't got nothing! ~lol~ Some food for thought for you. 'Good Luck' in the upcoming legs. :^) - Mal |
Sep-30-08 | | technical draw: <camachoe> El año pasado yo no clasifique pero termine en 3er lugar. Suerte! <Nako> No creo que empezaré con 10,000 asi que necesito otro milagro. Suerte para ti tambien.....TD |

Sep-30-08 | | mikejaqua: I just saw the listings for the Chessbookie game. The person on the bottom of the list is $69,000 in the hole! That's actually impressive. I say we need a Hall of Shame as well as a Hall of Fame. |

I say we need a Hall of Shame as well as a Hall of Fame.> You can count <TD> and I in on this... We've both wanted a <"Hall of Shame"> for quite sometime now! ;) Just as it takes skill and luck to win, it takes an equal amount to lose it all and the become the <King of the Cellar!> ~lol~ It should be pointed out that $69,000 in the hole, albeit impressive, is nothing to what <TIMER> accomplished in the Spring 2008 leg... ;) 428. <TIMER> -$135,508 --- now that's impressive! <devilish grin> Spring 2008 leg: http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook... :^) - Mal

Sep-30-08 | | technical draw: Yeah <Mal> I remember the good old days when you could con the loan shark into giving you all the money you wanted as long as you lose it. Darn programmers. |
Sep-30-08 | | malthrope: <technical draw: Yeah <Mal> I remember the good old days... [...]> Hehehe... I remember them too at least the scam part of it punching through all of the <CG.com> programming loopholes! ~lol~ It should be noted that <TIMER>'s Spring leg negative record score will be very difficult to equal again. As further tweaking was done to the bottom dwellers and the rules for which they play by down there in the dungeon... However, if you followed all of the members who placed high last season (in the Summer leg like I did) you'll note that <SQ> spent considerable time down there but still managed to comeback and win!... So, now we are aware of two things: _____________________________________
1) Coming up from the bottom as a cellar dweller to win a betting leg is possible. :) 2) In the Winter Championship leg it's not paramount that one start with $10,000 c-bucks in order to win it... Difficult - yes, impossible - no! ;) _____________________________________
Like you say <TD> the good ol' days! Well, the Fall season has finally descended upon us, there is a WCC match in a just a matter of weeks and I need a new betting quote for the month to display in my user Profile! ^o_0^ Thanks <TD> - you're it! :^) - Mal PS: Have it all ready in a few hours when I post the all new <Current Chess Events> for October! <grin> |

Another point is that during my visits down I accumulated more and more loan, which meant that every time I came up from there I had more money at hand than the previous time :) If I'd just had plain 3K bucks with two days to go, I'd been lost. Instead, I had 3K bucks + 12K loan, enabling this... <SPICE Cup: Rd 8: Mikhalevski vs Akobian : Draw 4840 YOU WIN! [...]> Yes, I'm fully aware of all this <SQ> - it only takes being down there 'once' for my statement to be true! ~lol~ If I recall correctly you were down there at least 3 times. Even with your long term betting ticket(s) outstanding since we don't get enough information to know if your 'Net Worth' figure shown is actually negative or not... Indeed all the trips you made down there benefited you. In fact most of the information of what goes on down there (since the Spring leg tweak) has come from you! ;) However, <ChessBookie> has clearly chosen not to divulge all of the new rules and tweaks which it has programmed since the Spring leg (just hints here and there). All of this has given me time to develop some new theories as to how to play the <ChessBookie> betting game strategically to combat all of these many hurdles to overcome. To play it so it doesn't always come down to the last day with one last bet to make! Of course it always 'will' but at least you can prepare for it better by putting yourself in a superior position in the 'last day' betting game! <devilish grin> :^) - Mal |

Oct-01-08 | | kspiteri: The Russian Superfinal starts in two days on October 3, so I guess the Fall Leg will start before that day. |
Oct-01-08 | | malthrope: <kspiteri: The Russian Superfinal starts in two days on October 3, so I guess the Fall Leg will start before that day.> Right <kspiteri> - having just posted all the current info on the 'Russian Superfinals Championship' on the <Chessgames.com> page and it's also listed in <Current Chess Events> in my Profile. However, the Fall leg will start when <ChessBookie> says it's starts. ~lol~ Not until then! So, we wait... :) - Mal |
Oct-01-08 | | kspiteri: Since there are 555 participants, the initial total wealth was 555,000cb. At the end of the leg, the total wealth held by the participants (adding all the positive balances) is 588,631cb, and Bookie holds 102,181cb. Thus, Loanshark has forked out 588,631 + 102,181 - 555,000 = 135,812cb. 65 participants still owe him a total of 240,744cb which he has to write off. So poor Loanshark ends up losing 135,812cb, when he should have had a profit of 104,932. |
Oct-01-08 | | Kreifi: Congratulations to winners.
I had so much work and other things that I did not have any time end of the leg. But, I made quite well anyway. Waiting next leg and I am sure that I will be much much more active. Of course I will, I need those money because I go to school and you don't get so much money from going school. ;) |
Oct-01-08 | | technical draw: <kspiteri> Nice work! We need you at Nasa! |

Oct-02-08 | | NakoSonorense: Noooo! Somebody just stole me 8,001 chessbucks and left me only with a thousand! |
Oct-02-08 | | technical draw: Oops! This is the fall leg. The winter leg is the 10,000 do-daddy. |
Oct-02-08 | | whiteshark: May I ask for an unbureaucratic advance payment from the winter leg? <5,000 <>> is o.k. for now. Thank you!! |
Oct-02-08 | | Xenon Oxide: YAY! I'M on JOINT FIRST in the standings with 1,000 CHESSBUCKS! MY BESTEST POSITION YET! |
Oct-02-08 | | technical draw: Can we quit now? I'm in the top ten. |
