Ronnie is my favourite snooker-player. I was very disappointed last weekend when he resigned his semifinal match against Hendry.

Jan-14-07   Zebra: <Dim Weasel> Many thanks for your analysis. I will post a few comments shortly, and then probably annotate the game on GK incorporating these notes. I was not conscious of having a significant advantage - except that I was enjoying the game which was probably a good sign ;)

Dim Weasel: <<Zebra> I was not conscious of having a significant advantage> If I remember correctly Fritz evaluated the game something like -1.4 before 26...e6 and about -0.5 after. I don't know if Fritz's line would have lead to a winning endgame, but I know I wasn't enjoying the game at that point ;)

  hitman84: Hi <Dim Weasel>,

I've planned to organise a friendly consultation team chess game b/n some of the experienced kibitzers on the site.

The date of commencement will be decided after consulting with the members in the roster.

Rules( liable to change ) :

1. Three members on a team.
2. 2 days/move.

Once a total of six members fill the roster, "draw of lots" shall be used to decide the team.

I'm yet to decide on the forums to be used for the game.

I invite you to join the game. I'm sure everyone invovled in the game will enjoy and friendship will blossom among the members.

Thank you!

Dim Weasel: <hitman84> I thank you for your kind invitation, but as I'm kind of busy currently I have to answer 'no' this time.

However, I'm sure you will have no problems in drafting keen players amongst the really active CG kibitzers and if you then are in need of a free forum, mine is available for your use.

Good luck!

  hitman84: <Dim Weasel>Great show by Ronnie!

Ding is a very talented youngster. He beat Hendry in the semis, whoa! Both Ding and Pankaj are arch rivlas..

I cant believe Pankaj is still not playing in the top circuit :(

Dim Weasel: <hitman84> A show indeed! He seemed to be in very good humour, potting that black lying on the table and ending another break by potting deliberately wrong ball after putting himself into a 'self-snooker'.

Who is Pankaj? Young talent from India, I guess. Finland has one snooker player near the top rank: Robin Hull.

PS Roger again, you are oscillating...

hitman84: Yes, I guess Ronnie is the next "Beckham of the baize"

Yes Pankaj is young talent and is searching for sponsors to get into the top league.

Robin Hull I checked is ranked 38.

I'm rooting for Roger as usual :)

Of course, on top of all that comedy Ronnie also behaved like a perfect gentleman when young Ding sort of collapsed mentally in the end.

Apr-13-07   Dr.Lecter: <dim weasel> On your profile, you've got three tourneys from 2006. It really was a good and exciting year, wasn't it?

Dim Weasel: <Dr.Lecter> I started following live games during San Luis (2005) and I was pretty excited (mainly about Topalov) for awhile. Past year I have been more busy playing at GameKnot. I don't know if the quality of play in top tournaments has changed, but yes, 2006 seemed to be a good year.
May-11-07   Dr.Lecter: Before 2006, I really didn't study nor play chess a lot. It was just a thing that I played maybe once a month cause I was bored. Then, after being stuck with a ChessLife June 2006 magazine for 2 month in Korea, I started following chess. If that magazine wasn't about U.S. chess championship, I don't know if I would have played more.

Dim Weasel: Here is a GK game that I consider my best so far. This is mainly because White is the strongest player I have won and he really didn't give up after making an error, but made me fight for the win all the way.

After the game White's rating was 2007 amd mine 1864. I really don't know what the WhiteElo and BlackElo in PGN listing are, if someobody knows please share. And feel free to comment the game.

where Black is clearly better after 16 ... Bxb2. But the game continuation lost a piece outright.

Very nice endgame technique to convert the win. =)

Dim Weasel: <tpstar> Thanks for the comments. I haven't checked this game with computer, but I think 12.d5 must have been just a blunder that gave me the game. Still, I knew that against a stronger player it would be difficult to convert and tried to improve my position little by little without giving him counterplay. I think his plan for endgame was to make my extra Bishop useless, but I finally managed to activate the piece. After that I knew the game could actually be won.

I have noticed that I often get good results in endgames, but lose when game involves fierce attacks (regardless of which side is attacking, me or the opponent ;) I guess this means that I should adjust my opening repertoire: instead of playing the 'active' and 'interesting' lines leading to 'unclear' or 'chances for both sides' positions (often recommended by authors) I should choose more stable (usually older) continuations even if they result in a slightly worse position. In practical play of my level this approach could produce better results on average.
