That's ok Elvis, we all have to face our demons... Here's a song that best exemplifies N.Y.
Shattered - The Stones
|Aug-24-14|| ||Travis Bickle: Hey Lenna, yeah Eddie Vedder from Illinois is the frontman-sometimes guitarist for Pearl Jam. They were a great band to me for about their 1st 3 albums, then they were still good but I lost interest... |
Steely Dan is a great band! They started in the early 70's & still do live shows now. 1 thing you could compare Steely Dan to The Beatles is that virtually every song they've done is a good song. How many bands can accomplish that?
Neil Young started out way back in the mid 60's with a band called Buffalo Springfield, left & joined Crosby Stills Nash & Young. After leaving that band he went solo & also formed a band that he still plays with off & on called Crazy Horse... He has played many genre's from pop, folk, rock n roll, hard rock & even experimental. I put Neil Young's songwriting & lyrics right up there with The Beatles Bob Dylan & The Stones!
P.S. I like some songs by Cold Play but never bought an album by them...

|Aug-28-14|| ||MarkFinan: the beatles, give me some truth beatles version: http://youtu.be/UXly4xu9kiM|
Some great footage that's completely out of sync with what's actually going on, but this proves that Lennon needed McCartney musically... Lennon's version of "Gimme some truth" is absolutely brilliant and I wouldn't change a line in it, but you can see McCartney helped him craft that song. Nice footage with Billy Preston too.

tbon I thought maybe you secretly wanted to hear some hard core Indie music.
This is <Alexey Alekhine> with "All of My Days":
|Aug-29-14|| ||Travis Bickle: <Boomie> Peter Sellers was a genius when it came to dialects & comedy meshed together! |
P.S. Have you ever seen Sellers in The Party? ; P
|Aug-29-14|| ||Travis Bickle: <MarkFinan> Thanks Mark for that clip as I've never seen it before! Ringo always said McCartney was the producer of The Beatles... |
I think if you simplify The Beatles, McCartney was the melody & Lennon the lyrics. But they were much more complicated than that... Harrison said Lennon gave The Beatles a rough edge, an example would be Revolution. Paul on the other hand had great melody & phrasing like in Hey Jude.
The magic of The Beatles happened when John & Paul used each other for springboards of musical ideas, melody & lyrics. They had a collective mindset & could breakdown the others stifled ideas when they came to a dead end, The other Beatle could come up with a break through and a great song was accomplished!
|Aug-29-14|| ||Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen> Thanks Jess for a really great song!! ; P|
|Aug-29-14|| ||Boomie: <Beavis Tickle: Peter Sellers was a genius when it came to dialects & comedy meshed together! |
P.S. Have you ever seen Sellers in The Party? ; P>
I forgot to mention that in the Richard III recital, Sellers is using Sir Lawrence Olivier's voice.
I've seen most if not all of Seller's movies including his first - the wonderful "The Ladykillers" with the great Alec Guinness. I can't believe they tried to remake this nearly flawless comedy. I mean Tom Hanks is a good actor but he's no Alec Guinness.
|Aug-30-14|| ||Travis Bickle: <Boomie> Besides all The Pink Panther movies Peter Sellers is also very funny in The Bobo... LOL! |
P.S. The Ladykillers with Tom Hanks bombed here in the states... Like the late film critic Roger Ebert once said, "when doing a remake they should do one on a bad film not a classic"!
|Aug-30-14|| ||moronovich: HiŽ<Travis> !
One more Neil ;) : Back in the 70ties I knew a guy.A very nice person who gave me many adresses and tips about a trip I was going to make.Four-Corners and indian land,especially the hopis in Arizona.He was a kind of expert in indian culture,has made many trips and visits and was wellknown and higly appreciated among the natives,red or any other colour.
He once told me about participating in some of the(forbidden) rituals,and around those fires were names like e.g. Marlon Brando and Buffy Saint Marie.
So every time I listen to "Pocahontas",which is a very beautiful song in my book,I hear something extra and know it is based on a true story !..
All the best - moro
|Aug-30-14|| ||Travis Bickle: <moronovich> Thanks Moro for the interesting info. In the 70's Marlon was a big time Native American activist turning down an Academy Award in protest of the treatment of Native Americans.|
